Battlefield 6 is already off to a roaring start, and DICE is looking to keep momentum alive with a relatively quick release for its first post-launch season. A free update rolling out across all platforms, Season One begins October 28 and will bring new maps, modes, weapons, and a limited-time seasonal event. The roadmap is divided into three distinct phases, so there’s plenty to look forward to when it comes to Battlefield 6.
Battlefield 6 Kicks Off Season One With Rogue Ops
Season One of Battlefield 6 opens October 28 with Rogue Ops, and at its core is Blackwell Fields, a new map set at a recommissioned American air base in the California badlands. Designed for all kinds of combat, the map supports close-quarters firefights and large battles with land and air vehicles. Strikepoint, a permanent 4v4 tactical mode where two squads fight across multiple rounds to capture a key objective, also debuts here.
In Strikepoint, players will only have one life per round, so success in the elimination-type mode will likely depend on precise teamwork.
Rogue Ops Will Bring Battlefield 6’s First New Weapons (And a Vehicle)
Rogue Ops also adds several new pieces of kit for players to experiment with. The SOR-300C is a compact new addition to Battlefield 6‘s carbine weapon class with a slower fire rate that rewards accuracy, while the Mini Fix Scout gives Recon players a fast, mobile, bolt-action rifle. A new sidearm, the GGH-22 pistol, offers high ammo capacity and a rapid fire rate at the cost of raw damage. Armored players and squad drivers will appreciate the arrival of the APC Traverser Mark 2, a four-seat armored carrier designed for infantry support.
Two new attachments for Battlefield 6‘s weapons, the Rail Cover and the Low Powered Variable Optic (LPVO), will also make their debut, providing players with some new options for their rifle and light machine gun loadouts.
Season One, Phase Two Takes Battlefield 6’s Combat to Suburban SoCal
November 18 marks the start of the second phase of Season One, California Resistance. The update introduces Eastwood, a suburban map in southern California tied to a golf course that’ll also support any of Battlefield 6 game modes. The Sabotage limited-time mode releases as well, an 8v8 objective mode where each team takes turns on offense and defense. The goal: destroy as many sites as possible within the round timer, with victory going to the squad that causes the most damage.
California Resistance Brings Even More Firepower and Features to Battlefield 6
California Resistance will also broaden Battlefield 6‘s arsenal with another attachment, the Troy Angled Slim Handstop, and two new weapon offerings in the DB-12 and the M327 Trait. The former is a pump-action shotgun with two barrels that can fire in quick succession, and the latter is a hard-hitting revolver with a slow rate of fire and steeper drop-off than its cousin, the .44 Magnum. Battle Pickups also make a return from the previous entries in the series, adding rare and powerful weapons scattered across maps with limited ammo.
Battlefield 6’s Winter Offensive Is a Smaller Seasonal Twist
The final stage of Season One, Winter Offensive, hits Battlefield 6 on December 9. It transforms one of Battlefield 6‘s existing maps, Empire State, by giving it a frozen makeover, perfect for Ice Lock, the final limited-time offering of the season. To fit the winter theme, the Ice Climbing Axe melee weapon will also be added, expanding the relatively thin up-close arsenal currently reserved for two knives and a sledgehammer. While smaller in scale, Winter Offensive appears to be a perfect gift to end the season and carry the game straight through the holidays.
Battlefield 6‘s Ice Lock event will add a Freeze mechanic that changes gameplay in specific experiences, though just how that’ll shape up is still unknown.
A Strong Start for Post-Launch Content
Ultimately, Season One of Battlefield 6 looks like a well-rounded offering that manages to balance a decent scale with plenty of variety. Rogue Ops introduces a competitive new game type and a versatile array of gear, while California Resistance expands the action with new maps and a mid-sized mode perfect for Battlefield 6’s smaller maps. Finally, Winter Offensive will close out the season with a light dusting of well-suited snow.
The three unique phases seem like they’ll offer something for every type of player, all while perfectly pacing the Battlefield 6 content drip. It looks a little light in the vehicle department, but more than likely that’ll change, too, as according to the Post-Launch Roadmap Preview, there are even more reveals in store for Battlefield 6 Season One. Hopefully, whatever comes next will look just as strong.
