Amazon has restocked its exclusive Superman 5-Film Steelbook Library Collection ahead of its launch next Tuesday, September 2. This limited-edition 4K Blu-ray box set revisits the beloved 1978-1987 era when Christopher Reeve donned the red cape and ushered in a new era for the Man of Steel. The Superman 5-Film Collection is available to preorder for $130. It comes with four steelbook cases and a collectible metal tin to store them in.
Amazon has sold out and restocked preorders for the Superman 5-Film Steelbook Library Collection numerous times since preorders first opened in mid-July. That said, it’s been out of stock far more often than not, so there’s no guarantee it will be available to buy at or after launch. Amazon is also releasing an exclusive Batman limited-edition box set in September. Preorders for The Dark Knight Trilogy Steelbook Library Collection opened just about simultaneously with the Superman box set, but it’s been even more difficult to find the Batman collection in stock. The Dark Knight Trilogy’s Steelbook Library Collection launches September 16.
$130 | Restocked August 29 | Amazon Exclusive
The Superman 5-Film Steelbook Library Collection is essentially a modified and reissued version of the 85th Anniversary Steelbook Collection that released in Europe in 2023. That version also came with a fifth steelbook case and a couple of comic books. You won’t get the extra case or comics with Amazon’s new edition, but you’re also saving over $100.
Considering the standard edition of this 4K box set retails for $135 and regularly goes for $75-$100, the new collector’s edition is very reasonably priced.
The 10-disc collection includes all five movies on 4K Blu-ray, 1080p Blu-ray, and digital (Movies Anywhere). The four steelbook cases have vintage artwork reminiscent of Superman comics of the era. Superman II’s steelbook case has a split design with artwork for Superman II’s 1981 theatrical version and the The Richard Donner Cut.
- Superman (1978)
- Superman II (1981)
- Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006)
- Superman III (1983)
- Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)
The steelbook cases are packaged inside an oversized collector’s tin adorned with a vibrant, wraparound Superman logo.
Christopher Reeve’s Superman movies have superb native 4K restorations with support for Dolby Vision and HDR10. All five movies offer Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 surround sound. The first film in the arc, 1978’s Superman, also supports DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0.
Special features include documentaries, classic Superman cartoons, retrospectives, TV Specials, and insightful audio commentaries. You can find the full list of bonus content at the bottom of this story.
With regards to Superman II’s two versions. There’s a long story here that boils down to creative differences and concerns over the budget, which eventually resulted in Superman director Richard Donner being removed from the sequel and replaced with Richard Lester. Donner’s version was released decades later, and it’s generally considered to be the best version of Superman 2 as it adds more nuance and substance to the story.
The Superman 5-Film Steelbook Library Collection isn’t the only big 4K release for the DC icon in September, the new Superman movie arrives on 4K Blu-ray on September 23. The Limited Edition Steelbook for Superman 2025 matches the Steelbook Library Collection perfectly. Unfortunately, it’s been sold out for months, but hopefully it returns as we inch closer to launch. You can preorder Superman’s standard 4K Blu-ray edition for only $30 at Amazon.
You can pair this with the new Superman movie that’s available for preorder, as not only is it a fun film that lives up to the legacy of the character, but the steelbook version matches the Reeve collections perfectly. At the time of writing, the Steelbook Edition is sold out, but it’ll likely come back before launch.
