As they delve into the mines and caves of Stardew Valley, players are bound to find plenty of treasure in their adventures. Of course, getting their hands on some of that treasure involves the slaying of dangerous creatures that dwell beneath the surface of the earth. From basic slimes to flying serpents, there are all sorts of monsters that make spelunking a perilous journey.
For skilled players, though, the items that these monsters drop upon defeat are often worth the risk that comes with fighting them. Some are valuable, some have important gameplay uses, and some have both. However, the most coveted items are also the rarest. Players will have to fuel up with a Life Elixir and bring their finest weapon if they want a chance of getting their hands on these items.
Essential For Learning The Language
Stardew Valley players need to donate all four Dwarf Scrolls to the Museum in order to get the Dwarvish Translation Guide, which allows them to speak to the Dwarf in the rightmost area of the Mine entrance. This character sells some useful items and can be befriended, but not until the player can communicate with them.
Each Dwarf Scroll has the potential to drop from several different enemies, but the chances are slim. Dwarf Scroll I drops from the most enemy types, while III and IV have a narrower range of possibilities. Most have a 0.5% chance to drop from a given foe, but the last one is harder to find, with only a 0.1% chance to appear when eligible monsters are slain.
Iridium Bar
A Valuable Crafting Material
Iridium can become plentiful late in a Stardew Valley playthrough thanks to the Statue of Perfection. Before players manage to get this item, though, it can be a challenge to get enough Iridium to craft high-level items or upgrade tools to their max level.
That’s why it’s such a pleasant surprise when an Iridium Bar drops from a slain enemy. Shadow Shamans and Shadow Brutes, found on floors 81+ of the Mines, each have a 0.2% chance to drop this item upon death. Iridium Bats and Purple Slimes, both denizens of Skull Cavern, have drop chances of 0.8% and 0.9%, respectively. Purple Slimes appear throughout the dungeon, while Iridium Bats only spawn past Floor 50.
Prehistoric Scapula
One Component Of The Sloth Skeleton
Many pieces of the sloth skeleton can be dropped by various monsters, such as Pepper Rexes and Haunted Skulls. The Prehistoric Scapula, however, is the rarest of these artifacts. It can only drop from Skeletons, which are found on floors 71-79 of the Mines, and only has a 0.5% chance to do so.
For players trying to complete the sloth skeleton, it’s worth noting that the Scapula can be found in a few other locations too, such as Bone Nodes and certain artifact spots. However, the chances of finding it in these locations are also relatively slim, making it one of the harder skeleton artifacts to find.
Diamond
A Precious Gemstone
Diamonds are among the most valuable items in Stardew Valley, and the most valuable gemstone that can be replicated in the Crystalarium. They are a favorite gift of many villagers, making them highly sought after by players who want to befriend all of Pelican Town. A few high-level crafting recipes use Diamonds as well, such as the incredibly useful Fairy Dust.
After reaching the bottom of the Mines, every monster in the game has a 0.05% chance to drop a Diamond upon being defeated. In the Volcano Dungeon, though, a Dwarvish Sentry has a 10% chance to drop one, which is incredibly high for such a valuable item. Like other items on this list, there are other ways to find Diamonds in the game, but as a monster drop, they’re one of the rarest.
Ancient Seed
One Of The Best Crops In The Game
Ancient Fruit is one of the best crops in the game, and players need an Ancient Seed to grow it. Donating this artifact to the Museum will reward players with a crafting recipe that allows them to turn this artifact into a plantable version. Its fruit is highly valuable, plants produce continuously, and it grows in every season except Winter.
The Ancient Seed has a chance to appear in various artifact spots, but when it comes to monsters, it has a 0.5% chance of dropping from Bugs, Cave Flies, and Grubs. Though the odds of getting it are low, these monsters are common and start appearing fairly early in the Mines, making it easy for mid-game or late-game players to farm for the Ancient Seed.
Rare Disc
A Mysterious Artifact
The Rare Disc is an Artifact required to complete the museum collection. Players must donate this strange item, along with the Dwarf Gadget and at least 9 other Artifacts, to receive the “Burnt Offering” reward, a piece of wall art that they can place in their home. Little about this item is revealed in the game, as the flavor text only says that the player is “overwhelmed with a feeling of dread” when holding it.
Shadow Brutes, Shadow Shamans, and Spiders (the latter of which are found in the Dangerous Mines) each have a 0.3% chance to drop this enigmatic item. Bats in the Mines have a 0.1% chance. Players also have slim chances of finding the Rare Disc in fishing chests or when breaking open an Artifact Trove.
Magic Rock Candy
A Rare & Valuable Food Item
The Magic Rock Candy is perhaps the best consumable in all of Stardew Valley. It offers +5 to Attack, Defense, and Luck, +2 Mining, and +1 Speed, making it the most-buffing food in the game. Not to mention, it’s also a universally loved gift. For the sake of game balance, it makes sense that the Magic Rock Candy is so hard to obtain.
This colorful treat has a 0.13% chance to drop from Haunted Skulls, which spawn in the Quarry Mine and in the Mines on Dungeon floors. If players don’t want to rely on RNG to get their hands on it, Magic Rock Candy also appears as a reward for a few objectives in the game, and is sold by the Desert Trader for a whopping three Prismatic Shards.
Prismatic Shard
One Of The Rarest Items In The Game
This iconic multicolored gemstone is one of the hardest items for players to get their hands on. Not only is it a universally loved gift, but it also has plenty of gameplay uses, including obtaining the Galaxy Sword. It’s also very valuable, but most players choose not to sell it, thanks to its utility in the game.
As with Diamonds, the Prismatic Shard has a 0.05% chance to drop from any monster after the player makes it to Floor 120 of the Mines. Before that, the only monsters it can drop from are Shadow Brutes and Shadow Shamans, with a 0.05% chance. It can also drop from Serpents and Mummies in Skull Cavern at a 0.1% chance. Of course, there are many other places players can find a Prismatic Shard, but all of them rely on luck.
