A new video released by Square Enix is showing off a comparison between the gameplay for Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Switch 2 and other platforms. The beloved RPG served as one of the biggest third-party games announced to be receiving a port to the newest Nintendo platform, adding some new features like “Streamlined Mode” for players more focused on the story. Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s Switch 2 version will even include some exclusive perks for pre-orders, with digital pre-orders getting the original Final Fantasy 7 for a limited time. Now, Square Enix is showing off the Switch 2 version’s performance.
The Switch 2’s performance has served as one of the biggest questions for many big-name ports from other consoles early on. The highly-anticipated Switch 2 port of Elden Ring was reportedly experiencing some severe issues with its early versions, dropping as low as 15 FPS in demos featured at this year’s Gamescom. Square Enix has already spoken previously about Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s performance on Switch 2, confirming that the game will run at 30 FPS on the Nintendo platform. A new video is now giving a visual showcase of the remake’s Switch 2 performance.
A new video uploaded to Square Enix’s official YouTube channel compares the performance of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Switch 2 to other platforms. The showcase features a side-by-side view of the Switch 2 version in TV Mode, the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC versions of the game, featuring much of the same visual fidelity and detail. Director Naoki Hamaguchi previously revealed that the Switch 2 version features light rendering similar to the PS5 version, with a focus on using lighting to make the game feel more expressive. The Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake will launch on January 22.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Video Compares Switch 2 Port to Other Platforms
The impressive video showcases few visual compromises with the overall appearance of Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s Switch 2 version. The only majorly noticeable difference between the versions comes with some floor textures during Cloud’s introduction, with the ground looking slightly lower-quality on the Switch 2 version. The video also notably runs at 30 FPS for the showcase, not fully revealing the difference between the Switch 2’s 30 FPS and other platforms’ 60 FPS performance.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s Switch 2 debut in January was not the only game in the trilogy confirmed to be hitting the Nintendo platform. Square Enix confirmed last month that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will also launch on Switch 2 sometime during 2026, though an official release date was not confirmed. The in-development third entry in the trilogy was also confirmed to be releasing for Switch 2, with the final Final Fantasy 7 Remake game still awaiting an official reveal. Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s Switch 2 port will bring the critically-acclaimed RPG to even more fans soon.
