A new rumor based on multiple sources claims that the remake of Resident Evil 0 will be released in 2028. Capcom has been putting out quite a few remakes of classic Resident Evil games, and it’s looking increasingly probable that Resident Evil 0 is among the next ones.
Originally released in 2002 for the GameCube, Resident Evil 0 was a prequel to the first entry in the series. Following the officer Rebecca Chambers and the convict Billy Coen, Resident Evil 0 stood out by having dual protagonists who could normally be switched at any time. RE0 eventually received a port to the Wii, as well as an HD remaster. However, Capcom has still not officially revealed the long-rumored remake’s existence.
Multiple Sources Claim Resident Evil 0 Will Be Out in 2028
Despite Capcom’s silence on Resident Evil 0’s remake, multiple sources have pointed out that the game will be released in 2028. Dusk Golem said that a Code: Veronica remake would be released in Q1 2027, with RE0’s remake coming in 2028, and a new mainline entry in the franchise being planned for 2029. MP1ST recently corroborated this information, stating that Resident Evil 0’s remake has been in development for a few years under the codename “Chamber.” It was also claimed that Jon McLaren, who played Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, will be part of the game (likely playing Billy Coen), and that Beyond Capture Studios is overseeing the project.
These new rumors are consistent with previous Resident Evil leaks. Earlier this year, for example, the existence of Resident Evil Zero and Code: Veronica’s remake was already being mentioned by Dusk Golem, but the order of the games being launched has apparently switched places, with RE0 being pushed to 2028 and Code: Veronica being moved to 2027.
Before they can get their hands on the upcoming remakes, however, gamers will have the chance to play the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, which will be out on February 27, 2026. Requiem will mark Resident Evil’s comeback to Raccoon City, and it’s being eagerly awaited by fans.
As confirmed by Capcom, the next RE game will have Grace Ashcroft as its protagonist, and an increased focus on horror when compared to some of the previous entries in the series. Multiple rumors have pointed out that Leon S. Kennedy may appear in Resident Evil Requiem, too, but this is all just speculation at this point, and fans should take it with a grain of salt.
