Battlefield games, with the exception of Battlefield 2042 due to its always-online nature and the largely unpopulated Hazard Zone, have always had fairly easy-to-complete Trophy lists. On the pathway to earning the Platinum for a typical Battlefield game, players can expect to go through the campaign or War Stories at least once, doing special tasks within the missions to unlock certain achievements. They’ll then have goals tied to multiplayer accomplishments such as leveling up, earning ribbons for repairs and revives, and so on. Battlefield 6 isn’t reinventing the wheel in this regard, as it features the usual goals one would expect from a military FPS, but it shines thanks to the references packed within the achievement objectives and names.
The achievement list for Battlefield 6 can be viewed on websites like PlayStation Trophies, as all games’ Trophies tend to appear on the internet a week or so before launch.
Battlefield 6’s Big 2042 Joke Explained
The star of the show when it comes to this achievement list is undoubtedly the “Wrench Monkey” Trophy, as it sees Battlefield Studios directly poking fun at the previous release in the series, Battlefield 2042. While there’s no denying that Battlefield 2042 has made strides since launch and is in a far better state today than it once was, it’s still looked at negatively by franchise veterans due to its many problems. A buggy debut, overly large maps that lacked cover, specialists with appearances and personalities that fans felt went against Battlefield’s identity, and missing features like scoreboards all contributed to the disdain for Battlefield 2042 when it came out.
It can be argued that Battlefield 2042 damaged the brand and required that Battlefield 6 really pull out all the stops to win fans back, and it seems like BF Studios agrees based on the task for “Wrench Monkey.” Players need to repair a total of 2042 damage to vehicles in multiplayer to trigger this achievement, with the relatively simple goal and specific number instantly making it clear that it’s a reference. Just like the new game’s developers had to repair the damage caused by Battlefield 2042, so too do players who want to get all the Trophies that the latest game in the Battlefield series has to offer.
Explaining Battlefield 6’s Many Other Trophy References
Battlefield 6’s cleverness doesn’t end there, though, as players can spot several other homages in this list of PlayStation Trophies by looking for more oddly specific numbers or noteworthy names. Examples of said references include:
- Punished — Players get this Trophy for earning 129 multiplayer kills, and when combined with the name, it’s clear that this is a nod to the Marvel anti-hero Punisher. Specifically, it references his debut in issue #129 of The Amazing Spider-Man, which released in 1974.
- Sergeant Redford — For reaching level 25 in multiplayer, players receive this Trophy, which is a callback to the campaign character Sarge from Bad Company 2.
- Lance Corporal Matkovic — Acquired at multiplayer rank 14, this is a reference to a Battlefield 3 campaign character.
- Private First Class Montes — Another tribute to a BF3 campaign character, unlocked at level 9. The character’s ranks likely match the ones tied to the levels players hit themselves in multiplayer.
- Command and Conquest 2 — Unlocked by securing 128 objectives in Conquest, this is a clear homage to the Command and Conquer franchise.
- Super Bomb man — While this could potentially be a Super Bomberman reference, the associated image featuring Superman’s trunks suggests that it’s meant to represent The Man of Steel instead.
- Stolz der Nation — A somewhat niche Inglorious Basterds reference, this achievement shares a name with the short film Eli Roth directed to promote the main movie. It’s a piece of in-universe propaganda about the sniper Frederick Zoller, which explains the objective of getting 250 sniper kills as a recon.
- Medal of Honor — Earned for getting 414 “acts of valor” in multiplayer, which are basically the stand-in for ribbons. This is very likely a reference to the Medal of Honor franchise owned by EA that DICE made two games for back in 2010 and 2012.
- A Joyful Nurse — If players get a staggering 1996 revives they’ll unlock this achievement, which is a clear nod to Pokemon’s Nurse Joy thanks to the number. The Pokemon character first appeared in the video games with 1996’s Pokemon Red and Green.
- First Blood 2 — Acquired for getting 10 takedowns in a single match, this difficult achievement is an obvious nod to the Rambo films given its title, with the game’s melee takedowns utilizing a knife like Rambo did for several of his kills. Given how hard this could be to do in a traditional match, Battlefield Portal’s bot lobbies could be a big help for achievement hunters who want it.
Aside from a few tough multiplayer Trophies like the aforementioned “First Blood 2,” Battlefield fans should have a fairly easy path to a Platinum trophy with BF6. They only need to complete one singleplayer mission on the hardest difficulty, while a good chunk of the list is for completing campaign missions and carrying out optional tasks within them. Regardless of how straightforward the objectives themselves are, though, the journey to 100% completion should prove to be a good time thanks to the fun references sprinkled throughout the list.
