On September 1, Pokemon Unite unveiled two more Mega Evolutions arriving in October, as Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X will join the fray this fall. Additionally, Pokemon Unite confirmed that two additional Mega Evolutions would be playable by the end of 2025, but did not reveal the identities of these mysterious creatures.
The news came a month after Pokemon Unite celebrated its 4th anniversary, which was heralded by the arrival of the Legendary Pokemon duo Latios and Latias. Latios is a ranged special attacker that can bombard enemies with moves like Draco Meteor and Luster Purge, and can use Levitate to fly to Latias if both Pokemon are on the same team. By comparison, Latias is a ranged supporter that can grant buffs to a nearby teammate with Dragon Cheer or slow down opponents with Mist Ball. Latias also has Levitate, which allows the Eon Pokemon to fly to Latios’ location outside of combat.
Pokemon Unite Adding Two Mega Evolutions This October
To commemorate the October 16 launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Pokemon Unite confirmed it is adding more Mega Evolution forms in future updates. As revealed by the official Pokemon Twitter feed, Pokemon Unite will introduce Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X as playable characters throughout October. Mega Lucario will launch on October 3, and Mega Charizard X will be playable three weeks later, on October 24. Since triggering a Mega Evolution requires a specific Mega Stone to be held by the Pokemon it’s named after, both upcoming Mega Evolution forms in Pokemon Unite will include a Lucarionite and a Charizardite X as a fixed held item, respectively. The same Mega Stone requirement will also be retroactively applied to Mega Mewtwo X and Y. Pokemon Unite also stated that two additional Mega Evolutions would arrive by the end of 2025, but kept their identities secret.
- Mega Lucario: Friday, October 3
- Mega Charizard X: Friday, October 24
- Two Unnamed Mega Evolutions: By the end of 2025
The addition of Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X is not the only move Pokemon Unite has planned. Starting September 4, Pokemon Unite will add Pawmot to the main roster as an all-rounder. The September 4 update for Pokemon Unite will also make a significant change to ranked matches, as Groudon will take Rayquaza’s place on the Theia Sky Ruins map. While Groudon grants a buff to the team that defeats it, the same buff can be stolen by opponents, which could lead to some unpredictable finishes.
Though Mega Mewtwo X and Y have been in the game since 2023, that has not stopped Pokemon Unite from shaking up its meta-game. With Pokemon Legends: Z-A also adding more Mega Evolutions like Mega Hawlucha, it remains to be seen if those new Mega forms will also come to Pokemon Unite down the road.
