Developer Obsidian Entertainment has confirmed that there will pets to pet in The Outer Worlds 2. The highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s award-winning alternate future action RPG is coming out on October 29, and fans of the budding series are excited to learn all they can before it releases. The Outer Worlds 2 seems to be taking everything that players appreciated about the first game and building it up into something even more ambitious.
Blending classic RPG mechanics with quirky humor and design, The Outer Worlds became a cult favorite, with many people noting its similar vibe to the original Fallout games. The title takes place in the Halcyon system, which has been taken over by megacorporations. Players jaunt around to different planets, wreak havoc, stealth, chat, and fight, all while encountering some interesting NPCs. But it wasn’t until one of The Outer Worlds’ DLC expansions that players were able to have a pet in the form of Anubis.
The Outer Worlds 2 Will Let Players Have a Pet
When meeting with some of the developers at Obsidian Entertainment, Game Informer received confirmation that The Outer Worlds 2 will indeed have pets. They will function identically to the canid Anubis in the first game, meaning they will only hang out at the player’s ship, where they can be interacted with. It will also only be possible to have one pet active at a time. Players were asking for pets way back when The Outer Worlds first came out, so many will be pleased despite these limitations. Though the devs revealed that one of the pets will be a weaponless Protectorate Drone, they kept the identity of the other potential companions close to their chests.
Anubis, the miniature canid that players can befriend in The Outer Worlds 2 is obtained after meeting with his owner during the Peril on Gorgon DLC. The tamed critter apparently takes a liking to the player character and follows them back to their ship, where Anubis becomes an interactable decorative item. The companions on the Unreliable ship will each have a different dialogue reaction to him, and it’s probable that the companions in The Outer Worlds 2 will behave similarly.
The Outer Worlds 2 recently went gold, and fans have only a short while left to wait before it is released. The upcoming RPG will feature an expanded roster of weapons, and its first-person shooting mechanics have even bolstered with the assistance of Halo Studios. There will of course be improved visuals from its 2019 predecessor, and The Outer Worlds 2 will feature an entirely new cast of characters as well as a new solar system to explore.
