Oda Reveals Major Plans To Draw A Story About Luffy’s Birth 

If there’s one character that everything in One Piece revolves around, it is Luffy, the protagonist of the series. Luffy isn’t just a character who strives for his own goals. He is so deeply woven into the plot that everything that happens far away from him is also connected to him somehow.

In other words, Luffy is One Piece’s essence, and that’s precisely why Oda believes drawing more of Luffy will reveal One Piece’s biggest mysteries. Yet, despite all that, Oda has actually never revealed any big mysteries about Luffy. For instance, the mystery behind Luffy’s birth was never revealed by Oda, and to this day, fans await an answer to it. That said, readers need to be patient as Oda has already promised that it’s on the way.

One Piece fans have always wondered what the circumstances of Luffy’s birth were. Fans know Dragon is his father, but his mother remains a mystery. What’s more, Oda has also made it quite clear what Dragon’s philosophy is. He believes children are a weakness of a parent, which is why Luffy was away from him for so many years and was raised by Dadan. Yet, Dragon had him anyway. Clearly, there is a deeper mystery than Oda hasn’t delved into at play here. That said, Oda plans to reveal it sooner or later. Here’s what Oda had to say about it:

Question: Which characters would you like to go into detail about if you had enough time?

Oda: Well, there is a helpful means named “cover story” in ONE PIECE for that purpose… Anyway, there remain some characters I want to go into detail. It would be interesting if I focus on Marines. I can come up with a magnificent story about Garp. I’d like to draw some relationship and talks between him and Akainu, Aokiji, Smoker, Hina, Coby who joined Marines one after another, Cypher Pol and Roger.

It would also be interesting if I focus on Revolutionary Army, mainly Dragon. Why do they intend to make a revolution? With what belief? How did they meet? The story about Luffy’s birth would be interesting. Some of those stories would be serious.

All of the stories about their lives lead to Luffy!!

Dragon’s Flashback Will Eventually Come

Going by Oda’s words, he would absolutely love to draw a spinoff on Monkey D. Dragon and the Revolutionary Army. That Spin-off might very well come, but the fact is One Piece is stretching more and Oda seems to be lacking time when it comes to drawing extra content like spin-offs and one-shots. At the same time, Oda already incorporated Garp’s relationship with Kuzan in the main story, something that he wanted to put in the spin-off story at one point.

Clearly, Oda is likely going to incorporate Dragon’s spin-off in the manga, which means a comprehensive look at Luffy’s birth and the circumstances surrounding it will be shown soon.

Dragon Is Already On The Move

Monkey D. Dragon has declared war on the Celestial Dragons already, and the Holy Knights are now on the move. This means sooner or later, Dragon will confront the likes of Shamrock, and possibly even Garling Figarland. The moment Oda shifts focus to Dragon, Luffy’s birth and his entire past will become clear, and that would certainly be quite exciting to witness.

One Piece Chapter 1158 will be out in two weeks. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on August 31. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1158 is August 31, 2025.
