Demon Slayer has quite literally taken the world by storm this year with the release of its new movie Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza’s Return. Everybody knew this movie would be good, but not many expected it to crack the numbers that it did. It blew up not only in Japan but also worldwide, and is still going strong. This movie, however, might have some competition up ahead.
In Japan and in many countries in Asia, a new hit movie has been released, and that’s Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc. Reze Arc is definitely taking some attention away from Demon Slayer, and many fans believe that in terms of quality, it’s the better movie out of the two, even if it won’t surpass Demon Slayer in numbers.

Reze Movie is Doing Incredible Numbers At The Japanese Box Office
For a while now, Japan’s box office numbers have been dominated by one movie alone, and that’s none other than Demon Slayer’s new big hit release, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 — Akaza’s Return. Since its release in July in Japan, no movie has been able to surpass it, that is, until now. Chainsaw Man came out with its own big hit movie, Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, and finally, someone was able to take attention away from Demon Slayer.
The Reze movie was able to amass ¥2,900,000,000 in earnings with 1,960,000 admissions in just 10 days. These are very impressive numbers and, while not bigger than Demon Slayer overall, they show how big a series Chainsaw Man is.

When it comes to deciding which of the two movies deserves to be called the anime movie of the year, it seems many agree that Chainsaw Man had the better release. After all, the ratings are more in favor of Chainsaw Man at the moment. Demon Slayer is still bigger, of course, but that is because, as a series, it appeals to a much broader audience. Meanwhile, Chainsaw Man is a smaller franchise with more serious themes targeted at an older audience.
Chainsaw Man’s popularity is bound to only grow from here on out, and its name will be more well-known even outside of anime spaces. The Chainsaw Man movie will drop in countries such as the US later this month, on October 29, 2025.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1, meanwhile, is out in theatres now. Fans who don’t want to wait for the movies to drop can check the manga out on Manga Plus. Meanwhile, for the anime, the series currently has 4 anime seasons. These anime seasons can all be found on Crunchyroll. The remaining series will, however, be animated into movies, which fans will have to wait for their theatrical release to watch, depending on their country.
