Demon Slayer is full of iconic breathing styles that fans love to witness in action-packed battles. Tanjiro has shown the power of both Water and Sun Breathing, with other characters accompanying him having ample opportunities to show off their breathing styles.
However, some of the other techniques in the series only get a fight or two to showcase their techniques before they’re forgotten. It’s a shame, since these styles showed a ton of promise and could’ve been used in some of the most intense Demon Slayer battles.
Flame Breathing
Rengoku Had One Arc To Show Off His Moves With This Breathing Style
- Known User(s): Shinjuro Rengoku, Kyojuro Rengoku
Rengoku is one of the most beloved characters in Demon Slayer, with his infectious charm making Mugen Train all the more engaging for fans. While Tanjiro and Inosuke were dealing with Enmu, he didn’t have to show too many Fire Breathing techniques. However, things took a turn for the worse when the exhausted demon slayers were ambushed by Akaza.
Refusing to let the young demon slayers die, Rengoku heroically threw himself into battle and displayed some of the strongest Flame Breathing techniques. However, no matter what he did, Akaza was just too strong, and even the most powerful technique in his arsenal wasn’t enough to take out the Upper Rank Three, who punched through Rengoku’s chest and dealt a fatal wound. As a result, Rengoku passed away, and Flame Breathing was never used in the series.
Moon Breathing
Kokushibo Showed The Powers Of This Breathing Style In One Fight
- Known User(s): Michikatsu Tsugikuni/Kokushibo
Michikatsu always lived in the shadow of his brother, Yoriichi. No matter how hard he tried, his Moon Breathing would always be inferior to his brother’s Sun Breathing. As a result, he decided to take Muzan’s offer of becoming a demon and became his Upper Rank One Demon Moon.
The fearsome power Kokushibo wields can be seen when he wields the demonized version of Moon Breathing, which is ridiculously powerful and leads to several casualties. The demon slayers put in a Herculean effort to take down this powerful Demon Moon, who manages to show numerous Moon Breathing techniques before biting the dust.
Flower Breathing
The Hashira Was Dead Before The Show Began, And Kanao Is The Only Alive Demon Slayer To Use This Style
- Known User(s): Kanae Kocho, Kanao Tsuyuri
Before the events of Demon Slayer, Shinobu Kocho’s sister encountered Doma during her travels. Despite her power as a Flower Hashira, she failed to defeat this fearsome foe and was killed. Kanae’s death affected Shinobu and Kanao greatly, with the latter following in her footsteps and learning the art of Flower Breathing.
As powerful as this breathing style may be, it’s a shame that Kanao only manages to show off its techniques once during her fight against Doma. Still, the techniques are incredible to behold, with Final Form: Equinoctial Vermilion Eye being a major highlight that enhances a fighter’s perception considerably.
Sound Breathing
Tengen Retired After A Hellacious Fight Against The Upper Six Demon Moon Duo
- Known User(s): Tengen Uzui
After the events of Mugen Train, Tanjiro and his buddies accompany Tengen Uzui on an adventure to the Entertainment District. He wanted to find his missing vibes and used the echolocation of Sound Breathing to give viewers a taste of what was to come. After Daki and Gyutaro join the battle, Tengen wastes no time in displaying his skills as the Sound Hashira.
The wealth of techniques he whips out makes it troublesome for the Upper Rank Six duo to deal with him. While Gyutaro does manage to sever an arm, Tengen teams up with Tanjiro and manages to behead their foe in an incredible climax. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe, and he retired as a Hashira, ensuring that this is the only arc when fans get to see Sound Breathing.
Wind Breathing
Sanemi Is A Rough Hashira Who Gives Fans A Taste Of This Style In An Intense Battle
- Known User(s): Masachika Kumeno, Sanemi Shinazugawa
Sanemi may seem like a heartless brute who treats his brother like dirt, but there’s a lot to this character that fans aren’t aware of. All of this will be revealed in Infinity Castle, along with the true extent of his Wind Breathing.
Fans have only caught glimpses of his technique, which is why the wait for his battles will prove to be agonizing. Seeing techniques like Idaten Typhoon animated by Ufotable’s brilliance will make for a visual feast that fans will eat up.
Serpent Breathing
Infinity Castle Lets Obanai And His Breathing Style Shine
- Known User(s): Obanai Iguro
Obanai is one of the most amusing characters in Demon Slayer, seeming like a cold-hearted snake until his crush for Mitsuri is made clear for everyone to see. He also shows shades of his Serpent Breathing, with his unique katana coiling around like a snake to hit enemies from different angles.
This is why his breathing style will be so fascinating to witness in the Infinity Castle arc. Sure, it may not have too many moments to show its brilliance, but anime fans will soon realize that Obanai will make the most of Serpent Breathing to deal with the series’ toughest villains.
