Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Box Set compiles all seven volumes of Miyazaki’s beautifully written and illustrated manga into two premium hardcover books. Each oversized Deluxe Edition has watercolor artwork by Miyazaki on the cover and endpapers. The books can be stored and displayed in the slipcase shown above, which also has original artwork by the author created while writing the series. Along with the books, you’ll find a foldout, watercolor poster of Nausicaa, the princess of the Valley of the Wind.
Nausicaa is best-known as the 1994 Studio Ghibli animated feature film, but the story told in the anime first appeared in Japanese in written form in 1982. And by the time the film released, the manga was still in its early days. As a result, the film is largely a condensed version of Volume 1 with some plot points and themes from Volume 2.
The manga didn’t reach its final conclusion until 1994, a full decade after the film debuted. So if your only experience with Nausicaa is the film, you have roughly 1,000 pages of story to experience still. Together, the two-volume set is 1,104 pages. Viz Media started printing the English translation for the first time back in 1990, and the full story has been available in English for nearly 30 years.
The series is also available in trade paperback, but you’d spend more on these than you would on the box set–even if you paid the full $80 MSRP for the collection.
