This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the greatest modern anime series and fans have come to love it tremendously over the last few years. The manga, written by Gege Akutami, managed to hit incredible highs, so much so that at one point, Jujutsu Kaisen even outsold One Piece, which is a feat in itself. Jujutsu Kaisen’s biggest strengths were its incredible battles and the way Gege managed to write incredibly intense battles and nerve-wracking situations. As a battle shonen, Jujutsu Kaisen did very little wrong.
But, if there’s one thing that fans don’t like about this series, it is the treatment of the female characters in it, especially towards the end of the second half of the story. Now, however, Gege has a shot at redemption, all thanks to the sequel series that he’s currently writing, called Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. Set 68 years after the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen, Modulo focuses on the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu. Fans especially love the fact that one of them is Yuta’s granddaughter, Yuka Okkotsu, and that her presence as a main protagonist will give Gege the opportunity to fix his biggest mistake with JJK.
Gege Akutami Will Fix His Female Character Writing In Modulo
Yuka Okkotsu Is The Main Protagonist With Tsurugi
- JJK’s female cast was lacklustre
- Gege can fix his mistakes with Yuka
Jujutsu Kaisen was quite easily one of the very best modern shonen that fans saw, but just like most of the others, it also failed when it came to delivering with female characters. It would be disingenuous to say that Jujutsu Kaisen dropped the ball on this from Day 1. It actually managed to start pretty strongly when it comes to exciting female characters. Nobara, Maki, and Mai were some of the most exciting characters in the beginning, and when the likes of Yuki were thrown in, things only got more exciting.
My name is Nobara Kugisaki. Be glad, boys, I’m the woman in your group. — Nobara Kugisaki
But, unfortunately, Gege dropped the ball on all the characters, aside from Maki Zenin. Nobara was cut out from the entire story in Shibuya, only to be brought back for the last few chapters, while Yuki was killed off in a fight that barely made sense. Mai existed as a plot device for Maki, and while Maki was certainly a part of some battles here and there, she, too, didn’t contribute much to the overall plot of Jujutsu Kaisen. Gege’s female character writing was atrocious in the main story, but now, he has a shot at redemption.
Yuka Okkotsu is one of the protagonists of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, and Gege absolutely cannot drop the ball with her. Since she’s a main character, Gege will be forced to write an exciting character arc for her, and make her grow with each passing chapter. It’s not just about the fights, but also about her ambition, her character growth, and the way her character stands in the grand scheme of things. With Yuka, Gege can finally set things right.
Fans Want Nobara To Show Up in Modulo
Nobara Could Still Be Alive Right Now
While Gege can make amends with Yuka Okkotsu, he can make things even more exciting by bringing in old female characters and finally giving them the exposition they deserve. Fans, for one, want to see Nobara Kugisaki return to the story. She might well be alive, and if she is, fans would want nothing more than seeing her return to the plot and aid the young generation in the fight against the Simurian aliens. This way, Gege would also be doing justice to her, as he clearly didn’t write her well enough in the original series.
