This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel, JJK 3 Modulo.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans are celebrating what is quite easily the best day of 2025 for them, and that’s because a continuation to the main story of Jujutsu Kaisen was officially announced. After the end of the JJK manga in 2024, fans were eagerly waiting for Gege to drop additional content, largely because the world of JJK still had a lot of potential, and at the same time, because they simply missed the series. The fate of JJK was unclear for quite a while, but things quickly took a turn for the better as Gege Akutami’s manga projects were announced.
In August 2025, it was officially announced that Gege Akutami was set to return with a new manga series, starting in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41. Now, it has officially been confirmed that this manga is a Jujutsu Kaisen sequel, set decades after the end of the main manga. For the most part, fans are delighted to know that Jujutsu Kaisen is officially returning. But, at the same time, there is some tragic news to face as well, as the Jujutsu Kaisen author has officially killed off two major characters, Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin.
Gege Akutami Officially Kills Off Yuta Okkotsu And Maki Zenin
- Maki Zenin died first
- Yuta Okkotsu died shortly after
In the Jujutsu Kaisen one-shot that dropped at the end of 2024, fans saw the story jump decades into the future. It was revealed that by this time, Yuta Okkotsu was the leader of the Gojo Clan and he had two grandkids as well. The two kids looked remarkably similar to Maki, and that’s why fans assumed that they’d gotten married. In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, it was officially confirmed by Gege Akutami that Yuta Okkotsu and Maki did get married. Eventually, they had kids and grandkids. However, fans who were expecting to see these two in the story would be disappointed to know that both Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin are dead.
Maki, erase everything! — Mai Zenin
In the JJK sequel manga, it was officially confirmed in the first chapter that Maki Zenin died first of the two. After living a long and happy life with Yuta, Maki died under unknown circumstances. Her death was a huge loss for Yuta Okkotsu, and he started losing his strength shortly after. As soon as Maki died, Yuta started dying, likely of grief as well. As confirmed by the granddaughter, Yuuki Okkotsu, Yuta died shortly after.
The Old Generations’ Characters Could’ve Died
The Series Is Set Over 6 Decades After Shinjuku Showdown
Neither Yuta nor Maki will play an active role in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, and that’s a given now. Their grandchildren, Yuuki and Tsugiri Okkotsu are the two protagonists of the story. While the two are gone, fans might be wondering if any character from the old generation of sorcerers is still alive. The answer to that is unclear, but what the fans know is that most of them would’ve died by now.
It’s the power of love. — Yuta Okkotsu
This is largely because Jujutsu Kaisen’s Sequel is set at least 68 years into the future, potentially even more, if there was another timeskip. This essentially means that most characters would be well into their 80s and 90s, and not everyone grows to live that long. It is highly likely that a lot of Jujutsu Kaisen characters are already dead in JJK 3 Modulo, including the likes of Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki. Yuji Itadori, however, could still be alive, largely because he was possessed by Sukuna for quite a while.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo will be out this week, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41.
