Former PlayStation Executive Thinks This New Steam Game Is Worth Checking Out

Shuhei Yoshida, former president of SIE Worldwide Studios, has a new favorite indie game on Steam called Ooo. His opinion carries weight, as he also led PlayStation Indies and has a proven track record of spotting creative titles from small studios, including those available on Steam.

Shuhei Yoshida foresaw the success of two indie games in 2025, predicting that Blue Prince and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 would be among the year’s biggest releases. This makes his praise for other indie titles, such as Ooo, which just received a shout-out from him, all the more notable.

Ooo Is a 2D Puzzle Platformer Game

Ooo, Shuhei Yoshida’s new favorite game, is a 2D retro platformer with Metroidvania elements released on August 7, 2025. In a recent Twitter post, the former PlayStation executive praised the developer, calling Ooo a very clever puzzle-action game that he highly recommends. Fans intrigued by his endorsement can try Ooo‘s demo on Steam to see if it lives up to his words.

Gameplay-wise, Ooo follows in the footsteps of classic 2D puzzle platformers, but its unique twist is the use of explosives for both solving puzzles and uncovering new areas. According to developer Nama Takahashi, the game is packed with secrets and hidden routes that can be accessed through creative bomb combinations. Its visuals and premise seem inspired by genre-defining titles like VVVVVV and Super Meat Boy. However, as the former PlayStation boss noted, Ooo‘s puzzle-solving focuses more on “creativity” than on platforming skills.

Fans planning to pick up Ooo should know it’s currently 20% off until August 14, bringing the price to about $8 USD. After the promotion, it will return to its regular price of around $10 USD. Those interested in the developer’s work might also want to check out their previous title, ElecHead, another retro-style 2D puzzle platformer with Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam. Released in 2021, ElecHead uses electricity in puzzle-solving and movement, much like Ooo focuses on explosions.

Shuhei Yoshida is currently looking forward to Baby Steps, a comical walking simulator about an unemployed guy exploring a mountain. While the innovation in Ooo caught Yoshida’s attention, it’s Baby Steps‘ bizarre premise and awkward controls that have him excited. Fans interested in Baby Steps can already add it to their Steam wishlist and try the demo to see if they share the former PlayStation boss’ taste in games. But they will need to wait until September 8 to play the complete edition.
