Final Fantasy 14 shared another preview of the upcoming strategy board feature, which included two new screenshots, during a September 20 livestream that celebrated the game’s 10th year of service in South Korea. The Final Fantasy 14 strategy board is expected to arrive, at the earliest, with the launch of Dawntrail‘s Patch 7.4 sometime this winter.
The strategy board, also known as the raid planner, is a feature that would offer Final Fantasy 14 players an easier way to coordinate and share battle strategies. The board consists of several icons that can be placed on a screen, and the board’s main area can match the outline of various raid and trial arenas. Additionally, player role icons and markers for area-of-effect (AoE) attacks can be moved around the board to suit the needs of a raid group. Final Fantasy 14 initially shared previews of the strategy board shortly after Dawntrail’s launch, though the feature has not been released to players as of this writing.
Final Fantasy 14’s Strategy Board Feature Is Coming Together
Although Final Fantasy 14 players must wait a little longer for some of Dawntrail‘s key features, Square Enix gave fans another look at one of the expansion’s pending items. During a livestream that celebrated Final Fantasy 14‘s 10th Anniversary in South Korea, Square Enix shared two new screenshots of the strategy board in action, utilizing examples from three of the game’s more notorious encounters. The first image demonstrated how players could plan for the AAC Cruiserweight M1 (Savage) raid encounter using the strategy board. A large purple icon was used to mark the raid’s boss, Dancing Green, with four red icons to indicate smaller “adds” that appear throughout the fight. In the second screenshot, more arena configurations were shown, including a circular arena and a cross-shaped floor pattern.
During the lead-up to Final Fantasy 14‘s 7.3 update, game director and producer Naoki Yoshida said that the raid planner had been pushed back to ensure it was in an ideal state. Yoshida added that the strategy board is scheduled to arrive by Patch 7.4 at the earliest, which would line up with the finale of The Arcadion raid series. Given the current release cadence of Final Fantasy 14‘s content patches, the 7.4 update should be available in December or January.
The precise release timing of Patch 7.4 will depend on whether Square Enix chooses to delay the patch to avoid any conflicts with the winter holiday season. As for the short term, Final Fantasy 14 players will have the Monster Hunter Wilds crossover event to look forward to starting in early October.
