Fallout is about to have a big send-off for the year. Despite not much news or information coming from developer Bethesda throughout 2025 so far about the status of the next mainline entry, presumably Fallout 5, the series has been carried on the momentum and goodwill earned by 2024’s live-action adaption of the IP. And the upcoming second season of Amazon’s Fallout show is soon set to deliver the next part of the tale of Lucy, Maximus, and The Ghoul.
With the previous knowledge that the Fallout TV show is returning a little earlier than initially expected, excitement has been building for what the next chapter holds in store. Just ahead of season 2’s release, another widely liked entry will be celebrating a big occasion. The fan-favorite Fallout: New Vegas is turning 15 later this month, on October 19. And the timeliness of these two factors could potentially contribute to culminating in a long-desired outcome.
Fallout season 2 premieres on December 17, 2025. As opposed to the previous format, episodes will be released on a weekly basis, running through February 4, 2026.
With Fallout Season 2 and New Vegas’ 15th Anniversary On the Horizon, There Will Never Be a Better Time For News About a Remaster or Sequel
The first season of the show was highly reviewed and praised by fans. With Fallout‘s storied history and passionately dedicated fandom, it could’ve been difficult to get it right. But the characters, tone, and especially the look and feel of the world were widely felt to capture the essence of the franchise and its themes. The cliffhanger ending then set up the reveal that the next season is heading into New Vegas, sparking a welcome reaction from many fans.
At this year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live, executive producer Jonathan Nolan unveiled the new trailer for Fallout season 2. Audiences got some more glimpses of the glistening city in the Mojave along with other iconic locations from the game, like Novac. Towards the end, Lucy MacLean and The Ghoul end up in a terrifying encounter with a deathclaw, something longtime players are likely familiar with and looking forward to seeing more of. Seeing these rendered on-screen along with other aspects, like Mr. House, promises to be an enthralling experience. And with Fallout: New Vegas soon to mark its 15th anniversary, it provides the perfect window for any news about a possible New Vegas remaster/remake or sequel.
Why it Might Be Now or Never for a Fallout: New Vegas Remake or Sequel Reveal
Fallout: New Vegas remains one of the most popular and beloved entries in the entire franchise. Obsidian Entertainment’s take on the IP after Bethesda acquired it is often held as the best of the modern bunch. A potential Fallout: New Vegas remake, remaster, or sequel has long been desired, and various leaks and rumors have cropped up in the past to suggest these, though never confirmed. But given New Vegas‘ upcoming anniversary and the looming premiere of season 2, it seems that if there is any movement on these happening, this would be the time for it to be revealed; or at the very least, before the end of 2025.
If an updated version of Fallout: New Vegas were to materialize, then it would probably entail a visual overhaul similar to The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, while hopefully quashing the more egregious or game-breaking bugs that are still known to trouble New Vegas. Alternatively, a full-fledged sequel would open up a ton of possibilities to expand on the lore and gameplay of the original, while serving to fill the expected extended gap between the next mainline title.
A Fallout 3 remaster has also been heavily rumored.
While there has been no word from the studio itself, Bethesda has surprised players before, and one need look no further than earlier this year when Oblivion Remastered was officially revealed and shadow-dropped in nearly the same breath. There is at least then some precedent for history potentially repeating itself in this instance, though it’s hard to say at the current moment how likely that may be. Nevertheless, New Vegas‘ anniversary closely coinciding with Fallout season 2 would present the best opportunity for any information about a new or related project to be revealed.
