Fall Guys fans believe the free-to-play platformer’s future could be in serious jeopardy, with some even implying that support for the title may have already come to an end. While Fall Guys was hugely popular when it launched back in 2020, allowing friends to either team up or battle against each other in a Total Wipeout-esque Battle Royale, some argue that its popularity has diminished in recent years, which is partly why the community is becoming increasingly concerned for its future.
Although there have been numerous competitors come and go over the years, there’s no denying that Fall Guys was once the most popular game of its kind. Although some believe the title to have dwindled in recent months, it was hugely successful at launch. In fact, the multiplayer platformer was so popular that it set an official world record in 2021, becoming the most downloaded PlayStation Plus game of all time. At the time, Fall Guys was only available on PlayStation 4 and PC, but it would eventually go on to release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and even mobile devices.
Fall Guys’ Latest Update Sparks Big Concerns
Fall Guys still receives new updates, but its latest patch has sparked massive concerns among the game’s community. As spotted by Push Square, fans believe developer Mediatonic may have just ended support for the title, as the most recent update has added content for Fall Guys‘ 6th anniversary, which is still a whole year out. While there is other content included in the patch, it looks like the studio has placed Fall Guys on “autopilot,” as fans have noticed that there are new skins, emotes, and other cosmetic items scheduled for the next four months, meaning there’s unlikely to be anything else, content-wise, during this period. Some even believe Fall Guys is about to experience a “content drought” until Epic Games pulls the plug entirely.
In 2021, Epic Games announced that it had acquired Tonic Games Group, the makers of Fall Guys. At the time, the publisher stated that “gameplay isn’t changing” and planned to continue investing in the title. However, fans quickly became concerned with what the acquisition meant for the future of Fall Guys, with one of the main concerns being the potential overmonetization of the title. As the owners of one of the biggest free-to-play titles of all time, there have long been rumors that Fall Guys will be moved into Fortnite at some point. As it appears that updates for the former could be slowing down, fans believe it’s only a matter of time before Fall Guys becomes accessible solely through Fortnite.
Fortnite initially began as a co-op PvE title with one core game mode known as Save the World. However, in 2017, the studio released a free-to-play Battle Royale mode that has now become one of the biggest games of all time. Fortnite has continued to evolve and is now a sandbox platform similar to the likes of Roblox and Minecraft. From LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, and thousands of community-made games, the title is no longer just one individual game, which is why it seems more than plausible that Epic Games will one day roll Fall Guys onto the Fortnite platform.
