Elden Ring Nightreign Steam Player Count is Down 82%

Elden Ring Nightreign‘s player count is a mere 17.81% of its peak back in May. FromSoftware has built a reputation for delivering incredible games that, while often having multiplayer elements, are primarily single-player experiences. Elden Ring Nightreign is the opposite. While the game can be played solo, it is first and foremost meant to be a co-op experience of three players exploring an alternate version of the Lands Between while taking on a variety of challenging bosses.

Launching at a budget price of $39.99, Elden Ring Nightreign still debuted to a fraction of the peak player count enjoyed by the original Elden Ring game. Elden Ring Nightreign‘s peak concurrent player count is 313,593 at the time of this writing, while the original Elden Ring hit an all-time peak of 953,426. Still, with Nightreign being a multiplayer-focused spin-off and not a proper sequel, it’s understandable that the game wouldn’t drum up as much interest as the groundbreaking original.

Elden Ring Nightreign Players Struggling Solo Are Encouraged to Play With Randoms

Despite some issues with solo play, Elden Ring Nightreign players are having success with matchmade groups and encourage others to play with randoms.

What may raise some eyebrows is how Elden Ring Nighreign‘s Steam player count has dropped by nearly 82% in just two months. According to SteamDB, Elden Ring Nightreign‘s peak concurrent player count for the last 24 hours is 55,862. The original Elden Ring, meanwhile, has a 24-hour peak player count of 52,589. The original Elden Ring has sold significantly more copies than Nightreign, but it’s still three years old, while Nightreign is only two months old. Nightreign being a multiplayer-focused game may also make its dramatic player count drop more concerning, but in all actuality, its numbers are still relatively strong compared to many other games.

  • 55,862 (Now) vs. 313,593 (Peak)

It’s important to keep in mind that Elden Ring Nightreign is not a live-service game, and it can be played solo, so it doesn’t live and die by its concurrent player count like some other titles might. Of course, it would be better for FromSoftware and Bandai Namco for Elden Ring Nightreign not to lose 82% of its initial playerbase, but it’s not the end of the world. Elden Ring Nightreign will undoubtedly draw lapsed players back with future updates, and in fact, a potentially big one is right around the corner.

It was recently confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will be adding a two-player mode on July 30. Currently, Elden Ring Nightreign is only playable solo or in groups of three. Duo Expeditions give Elden Ring Nightreign the chance to play in groups of two without getting any randoms involved, which could very well convince some players to give it another shot and others to try it for the very first time. There are other big updates planned for the game in the future, and it will be interesting to see if it’s ever enough to significantly boost Elden Ring Nightreign‘s player count or if interest in the game will continue to wane.
