After a short delay, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have released the big 1.02 update for Elden Ring Nightreign with Duo Expeditions, quality of life improvements, and much more. Released on May 30, Elden Ring Nightreign receives a steady flow of updates with new content, including bosses, and highly requested changes.
Elden Ring Nightreign drops players into the shifting lands of Limveld to fight the Nightlord with up to three players. Players can grow stronger by defeating the Nightlord, leveling up, and continuing onward to the next night. The release of Elden Ring Nightreign wasn’t perfect, but the game has been improving and gaining momentum thanks to the release of updates and content like the Everdark Sovereign bosses. The latest update, version 1.02, was planned for release on July 30 alongside the latest Everdark Sovereign boss and Duo Expeditions feature. However, Bandai Namco decided to delay the Elden Ring Nightreign update to July 31 due to the massive earthquake near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, which resulted in an evacuation order for almost 2 million people in Japan. Players around the world didn’t have to wait long, as the update was released in the early morning hours of July 31.

Elden Ring Nightreign update 1.02 is now live on all platforms, and Bandai Namco released extensive patch notes on its official website, detailing what exactly has changed with the update. Firstly, the update adds Elden Ring Nightreign’s Duo Expeditions, which lets two players enjoy co-op action, with game balance being adjusted to account for having one less player than the usual three-player team. The new update also brings new Relic filtering options, and the total number of Relic presets that can be registered has increased to 100. Moreover, there’s also a new feature to sell and favorite acquired Relics in the rewards and purchasing menus, among several other features and UI-related adjustments.
As detailed in the patch notes, Elden Ring Nightreign update 1.02 applies several bug fixes to the game to ensure a stable gameplay experience with fewer glitches and issues. One of the most notable changes involves removing an issue that caused players to disconnect from the game if a certain amount of time passes without any action after the number of expedition participants is set to 1. This should allow players to continue to play solo after a short break or wait for friends to rejoin, if a disconnect happens at their end.
The release of update 1.02 also means that the Everdark Sovereign version of Augur is available in Elden Ring Nightreign. Players must team up to battle and defeat the aquatic dark fiend known as Maris, Fathom of Night. Normally, players fight Maris at the very end of the Augur Expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign, but the Everdark Sovereign version of the boss is much more challenging. Although difficult, Everdark Sovereign bosses have caused the Elden Ring Nightreign player count to explode in recent weeks, but that player count has since normalized and fallen.
