In Digimon Story: Time Stranger, tamers will not only have to pay attention to their Digimon’s stats, but their Personality too. Personalities are a key factor in how Digimon grow in power, learn new skills, and reach the conditions for Digivolution. It can also alter how Agent Skills enhance their abilities during combat and help them learn passive abilities that can greatly enhance their performance during the toughest battles.
Agents need to know that Personalities can be altered all the time, so it’s a bit difficult to track down which of them are optimal for their current party members. This guide will help players understand how Personalities work and how players can take advantage of them to raise the strongest partners in Digimon Story: Time Stranger.
All Personalities in Digimon Story Time Stranger
There are four basic personality traits in Digimon Story Time Stranger: Valor, Philanthropy, Amicability, and Wisdom. Each Digimon will have a Base Personality that is affixed to one of these types, and certain factors like Interactions and Evolution can change that personality into one of its four sub-variants. Each sub-variant alters the Stat Growth of a Digimon, so players should mind that every time they have a conversation with their Digimon, since a little push in the wrong direction can alter how they increase their stats and lock some evolution routes.
With that in mind, players will want to push the dialogues they have with their Digimon into certain answers depending on the personality they want to reinforce. Each time a Digimon levels up, there’s a chance for a Personality Change dialogue, so players should pay attention to those chances that are usually activated during the Recovery Mode.
The Digimon stored in the Box or those in the Reserve row can also send messages asking Questions. Answering them will also alter their Personality, so keep this in mind and pay attention to message prompts from time to time. Here’s a full personality chart for Digimon and how each of them affects the Stat Growth Factor:

As mentioned before, Digimon have Base Personalities, but these are not ‘definitive.’ Evolutions alter the personality of a Digimon, for example: Gabumon might be Friendly, but when evolving to Garurumon, it can turn into Opportunistic if both stages had the same base Personality. However, if Gabumon evolves into Black Garurumon, his base Personality might change from Amicability into Wisdom, and become Sly or Astute instead. Keep that in mind when evolving Digimon.
What Are Personality Skills in Digimon Story: Time Stranger?
Personality Skills are passive abilities Digimon can learn each time their personality shifts into a subvariant or one of the four major Personality Traits. These can be learned spontaneously after a Dialogue, and Digimon can only have one at the same time. If a Digimon learns a new Personality Skill after a dialogue, a prompt will appear asking players if they want to replace the old one, and players can do so by pressing X (on PC).
Some Personality Skills alter the Stats of Digimon Permanently, or at least, as long as they don’t replace them with others. For example: Stout Strength enhances STR based on the amount of HP a Digimon has. Other types of skills are only active during battle, for example: Cheer enhances ATK and INT based on the total bond of all ally Digimon at the start of battle. There are various types of skills that are extremely useful in combat, and players need to learn which suits their playstyle (and the requirements of the Digimon they are raising) the best.
Personality changes are limited only by level/talent factor, meaning that if players run out of chances to alter their Digimon’s personality, they can just Devolve them and retrain them.

If a Tamer wants their Digimon to have a Skill from a different Personality, they can try to obtain it by switching their alignment and then, upon learning the skill, shift them back to their original Personality.
