During a new livestream event, Bungie revealed plenty of more details regarding Destiny 2‘s upcoming expansion called Renegades, which is influenced by Star Wars. It’s a big day for Destiny 2 players as the Ash & Iron mid-season update has finally arrived, bringing with it new content and changes for fans to check out.
Prior to the launch, Bungie teased a new Destiny 2 livestream which intended to give fans a look at the new Ash & Iron content, including the return of the Plaguelands. Inside this space, three players can take part in a new activity called Reclaim, a narrative-focused and objective-based mode that lets players earn rewards as they battle against enemies as well as a timer. However, for many, the big element to this livestream was a brand-new look at the upcoming Renegades expansion.
Destiny 2 Renegades Adding a New Social Hub and More
As part of its livestream, Bungie released a new ViDoc for the upcoming Renegades expansion for Destiny 2, set to launch on December 2. The expansion itself isn’t actually a one-off story, it picks up right after the events of Edge of Fate and further pushes things forward with The Nine and their prophecy that players discovered after the final battle. Renegades serves as a collaboration between Bungie and LucasFilm Games, giving the developers access to Star Wars-inspired sounds, themes, gear, and weapons
In terms of the story, players are infiltrating a criminal underworld to save The Drifter, who has found himself in a bit of trouble. New Syndicate factions will offer jobs to players, essentially providing different replayable activities within a space called the Lawless Frontier, a location that takes inspiration from iconic Star Wars locations like Hoth, Tatooine, and more. There’s even a new social hub space at Tharsis Outpost on Mars, where many criminal leaders congregate and is a great place to build one’s notoriety.
Obviously, it wouldn’t be a big Destiny 2 expansion without new gear to collect and for this one, Bungie is giving players a brand-new weapon archetype to earn called the Blaster. The weapon is clearly inspired by traditional Star Wars guns like Han Solo’s DL-44, and features those classic blaster sound effects. Outside of that are the new renegade abilities, unlockable bonuses that let Guardians do all sorts of things like call in Cabal Walkers, air strikes, and more.
While Renegades is still a ways off from launching, players are hopeful that the numerous changes happening both with the game and the shift in leadership at Bungie will lead to a better end product. Many felt that the reward changes were a solid first step, and continue to hope that even more improvements are on the way.
