A new update for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is now available on PlayStation 5, fixing a frustrating camera issue and addressing some other bugs. Released in June, over five years after the original game, Death Stranding 2 has been a hit with players and critics alike, and Kojima Productions is continuing to add polish to the bizarre action-adventure title.
Currently listed as one of the highest-rated games of 2025 on OpenCritic, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has been applauded for its improvements over the original title, along with its talented cast and gripping story. Set in Australia almost one year after the events of Death Stranding, the game once again follows Sam Porter Bridges as he seeks to reconnect the world and save humanity from impending extinction. Hideo Kojima’s artistry has continued to captivate eager players, and while the title was largely bug-free, a new patch is now live that fixes one major problem with the game.
Kojima Productions has announced that a new patch is now available for Death Stranding 2 players to download on PS5, bringing the title to Version 1.08. Those expecting major improvements or additional content may be disappointed, as this is a relatively tiny patch, but it does fix an ongoing problem that has been impacting many users. The August 7 update addresses an issue in which the camera/environment would appear to stutter when in motion, making the graphically stunning Death Stranding 2 more stable and easy on the eyes. While the patch notes don’t go into specifics, some other minor fixes and improvements have been implemented as well.
In an interview in late July, Kojima said that he knew Death Stranding 2 would be controversial, predicting that players would either love it or hate it. The creator is known for his divisive style, which typically aims to commit entirely to artistry without much care for general appeal. Kojima made it clear that he welcomes negative feedback, but stands by his convictions, noting that taking risks is a necessity when it comes to making games that have the potential to have a major cultural impact.
Currently, Kojima Productions has two projects in the works: a horror game titled OD and a mysterious stealth action title called Physint. Precious little is known about the latter, but some details about OD were recently confirmed, with the game reportedly being an Xbox exclusive that is being co-written by Jordan Peele. It remains to be seen exactly what kind of horror game it will be, but many Kojima fans are preparing themselves for something disturbing.
