Ghost of Yotei, so far, has launched to impressive success, outselling Ghost of Tsushima’s launch. No one is experiencing any crashes or big bugs that prevent them from enjoying another big open-world samurai game. It’s not a revolution compared to Ghost of Tsushima, but the changes implemented in the sequel are nice.
Being able to disarm opponents and toss their sword back at them never gets old, and the new weapon system in general adds more variety. Ghost of Yotei is not perfect though, and Sucker Punch could do a few things to make it more user-friendly. These are only a handful of suggestions for changes to Ghost of Yotei that the community would surely appreciate.
Play Zeni Hajiki At Camp
A Randomizer To Play With Your Wolf Pack
One of the breakout gameplay functions of Ghost of Yotei is Zeni Hajiki. It’s a coin-based mini-game where players will have to tap coins across a table and get the most points to win. It’s very easy to learn and can become addicting quickly, like the best open-world mini-games out there.
There are two things Sucker Punch could do to improve Zeni Hajiki. First, they could let players challenge NPCs at their camp, as if players invited a member of their Wolf Pack to come and sit down. A bigger update could include playing Zeni Hajiki with others online from the main menu, which seems more involved development-wise but also cooler as a feature.
More Photo Mode Options For Atsu
Strike A Pose
Sucker Punch is one of the most legendary developers when it comes to adding photo modes in games. Both Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei have great photo mode options, but if fans had to nitpick a few things, there could be even more photo mode features.
For example, players can change Atsu’s expressions, but most of them look the same and don’t add any additional flavor to photos. Atsu cannot be repositioned, like Spider-Man can in the Insomniac games. Bigger and bolder expressions, along with model poses, would be nice photo mode upgrades for Ghost of Yotei.
Replay Missions
Learn From Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4 added quite a few new features to the series, including a way to replay missions. Most open-world games do not have this feature, including Ghost of Yotei. While Borderlands 4 may not have hit as hard as Gearbox would have liked, there are plenty of things that games like Ghost of Yotei can learn from it, including its replayable mission structure.
There are some standout side quests in Ghost of Yotei, including The Spider Lily General quest. The main missions also have some spectacular moments and set pieces, and being able to replay them again, in some way, would be great for fans without having to replay the entire game.
Skip Through Dialogue
And Cutscenes
Ghost of Yotei has a lot of cool features and gameplay modes, including the various cinematic ways to play the game. However, it’s strangely missing some very basic gameplay features that a lot of open-world games have. When talking to NPCs, players cannot skip through the dialogue.
Most cutscenes, with the widescreen aspect ratio, can be skipped entirely, except for some. Why some scenes can be skipped while others can’t makes little sense, and this includes things like the Hot Springs meditations. Being able to skip through dialogue and all story cutscenes would be a huge plus.
Let The Horse Guide You
Set A Location And Sit Back
Traveling between locations swiftly with the horse in Ghost of Yotei can create some mesmerizing and cinematic moments. However, players may not wish to control their horse on every long trek across the game’s landscape. Some open-world games have added auto-navigation options to mounts, which allows players to set a destination and then their mount will go there automatically.
The Assassin’s Creed games are one example of this, and while these auto-navigating functions aren’t always perfect in games, giving players the option is great. That’s why Ghost of Yotei should add one as well if players wish to explore organically and not rely on the fast travel system.
Saving And Menu Tweaks
Load Into Your Game
One of the best features in Ghost of Yotei is the aforementioned fast travel system, because the variety of traversable locations is high, and loading times are lightning fast. For as fast as the loads are, there is a strange missing feature in the Options menu. Players can save anywhere they want, as long as they’re not in battle, but they cannot load their save files easily. If players want to load, they have to drop back to the title screen and then load from there.
Also, when players start up the game, they will not be greeted with the title screen, as the game will instead automatically load the most recent save file. It’s not a huge inconvenience to back out to the title screen, but it would be nice to have two new load features. First, add a load option next to the save option in the in-game menu. Second, let players choose if they want to boot the game up using the last save or if they want to go to the title screen.
Upgrading The Spyglass
Tagging Enemies
One of the best features in Ghost of Tsushima was Jin’s Focused Hearing ability. This allowed players to approach enemy bases stealthily by identifying where enemies were located, similar to the various Eagle Vision abilities in the Assassin’s Creed games. Ghost of Yotei has this extrasensory perception ability too, but it takes a while to unlock it.
There is a tool that could be used to tag enemies if Sucker Punched tweaked it a bit. Players can pull out their Spyglass whenever they want to look at locations in the distance. It’s best to pull the item out in a watchtower or at the top of a cliff to get the best view. While players can use their Spyglass to look at where enemies are in a camp, they cannot tag all of them like they could in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. It would be great if the Spyglass’s functionality were tweaked in Ghost of Yotei to give players more ways to sneak into camps like a master ninja.
