Random drops are a core part of Borderlands 4, and the series has embraced this with slot machines and other gambling minigames in previous entries. Slot machines are gone in Borderlands 4, but there’s a side quest that can scratch that gambling itch for you.
PowerDrop is a short side mission you can find early in Borderlands 4, and it introduces you to a new gambling minigame where you can win cool prizes like weapons and cash. It’s not a fully-fledged minigame like the slot machines Borderlands fans are used to, but it’s better than nothing. Here’s how to complete the PowerDrop quest in Borderlands 4.
How to Win PowerDrop in Borderlands 4
Powerdrop is a side quest that you can find in The Launchpad, the main settlement of the Outbounders faction in the Fadefields. To start the minigame, head down to the basement and speak to Monty.
The rules of PowerDrop are simple. Just grab a power core for the low price of $500, then toss it into the PowerDrop machine across the gap. The power core will bounce along the pegs on the way to the bottom, and you’ll get a prize depending on where it lands.
PowerDrop can give you minor rewards like cash prizes, but the big ticket item is the red chest with weapons and gear. You can only open the chest if the power core drops into the middle slot. Thankfully, you can try as many times as you like. The power cores only cost $500 each, which is nothing for Vault Hunters that are swimming in cash.
Unfortunately, you can only win the chest once. PowerDrop cannot be repeated. In addition to cash, Eridium, and XP, the chest serves as the main reward for the PowerDrop mission. It’s a bona fide red chest without any restrictions, so you can get legendaries and other powerful equipment if you’re lucky enough. If you end up with worthless greens and blues, then you’re out of luck.
Borderlands 4 fans are hoping for PowerDrop to become a repeatable activity to replace slot machines, but this is all that’s available on Kairos for the time being. If you really want to test your luck, you can try farming for the rarest Borderlands 4 legendary drops in the meantime.
