When it comes to weapons, Gears of War: Reloaded has a great arsenal. Every weapon is unique in its own way, and all of them are tied to the main story of the game. Not all of the weapons are overpowered, and the weapons that are great in every situation are usually the ones that players should have with them at all times. This guide provides a tier list for all the weapons in Gears of War: Reloaded, alongside some reasons as to why they deserve the spot they are in.
Gears of War Reloaded: Best Weapons Tier List
All ten of the weapons in Gears of War: Reloaded are important to have at certain points in the game. However, even if a weapon has a high damage output, if it is situational, it will be ranked lower.
S-Tier: Must Have In Your Loadout
Lancer Assault Rifle
The all-rounder Lancer Assault Rifle does everything a member of the COG needs. This is your starting weapon and has little to no recoil, making your shots consistently hit the Locusts. One of the major plus points of this weapon is that you can rev the chainsaw using the melee button, and this can one-shot every normal enemy at close range. As a lot of enemies on higher difficulties have a habit of rushing towards your cover with a Shotgun, this acts as your last line of defense.
Longshot Sniper Rifle
The Longshot Sniper Rifle is one of the few long-ranged weapons in the game, which has an ADS and an extra zoom feature using the R3 button on your controller. This allows you to accurately aim for the headshot even if the enemies are miles away from you. As a lot of the fights in the game have you sitting behind cover to take out enemies far away, the Longshot Sniper Rifle becomes a must-have in your loadout, especially to deal with those annoying enemies sitting on the Troika.
A-Tier: Close to Perfect, But Not Quite
Hammerburst
The Hammerburst, as the name suggests, is a burst weapon that players can acquire from the corpses of Locusts, as they are the ones who carry these weapons the most. The Hammerburst is basically the second-best option if you want a reliable rifle. It is not as good as the Lancer Rifle and lacks the chainsaw’s one-shot capability, but, as mentioned before, since enemies tend to carry it around the most, you will never have problems with low ammunition for this weapon.
Gnasher Shotgun
The Gnasher Shotgun is your go-to weapon for close-ranged combat. There are multiple instances where you will find this either on the ground or on enemies, and this weapon packs a punch. Any Locust that has a habit of getting close to you might be losing a few parts after an encounter with the Gnasher Shotgun. This weapon should also ideally be in your loadout, but it does not take priority over the Sniper, as that weapon has more uses.
Boltok Pistol
Your sidearm is a weapon that is only useful in situations where you are low on ammunition and do not want to lose your rifle bullets. The Boltok Pistol is a revolver that deals a lot more damage than your starting sidearm and is also useful in dealing with those annoying Wretches. The ammo and fire rate are the only negative points, but that is expected of a revolver, as it makes up for them in damage.
B-Tier: Somewhat Fun to Use, But Could Use Some Improvement
Snub Pistol
The Snub Pistol is your starting sidearm in the game and one that you will not be using much, but will always find at the bottom of your loadout. The pistol shoots low-damaging bullets, which are not really that effective, especially on higher difficulties. However, the sidearm comes in handy when running low on ammo for your primary weapons.
Bolo Frag Grenades
Bolo Frag Grenades are the only throwable in the game and have a very important job. That job is to close the holes where the Locust constantly spawn from. Players can also use them to make enemies hiding behind cover disperse. Aside from that, you will not be using this much throughout your playthrough, making it sit at B tier.
Torque Bow
The second long-range weapon in the game is the Torque Bow, which players can start using during the third act. This is a charge weapon, meaning that it will take a few seconds before the shot fires. The damage output of this weapon is one of the highest, which can take out the most powerful Locust with ease. However, the biggest drawback of this weapon is the charging itself.
On high difficulties, the charge time can become a very big nuisance, as most enemies can one-shot you with their own Torque Bow and Shotgun. For the charging section, you will have to get out of cover, which puts you in a risky situation.
When playing co-op, the weapon can be much more useful, but the low ammo count also makes it less viable to keep in your loadout.
C-Tier: Very Situational and Not Ideal for Every Encounter
Boomshot
The Boomshot is a damaging powerhouse, which is understandable as it is a grenade launcher that players will come across whenever the Boomer enemies show up in the game. The max ammo you can carry on this is not that much, being the weapon’s first drawback. The Boomshot is also inconsistent when dealing with a group of enemies, as it is rarely the case that most Locust will be close enough that you can take out multiple in a single shot. It is great to have to fight the Boomers themselves, but other than that, there is no reason to have this weapon on you over the others on the list.
Hammer of Dawn
The absolutely high-damaging weapon, which can melt powerful enemies in mere seconds, is called the Hammer of Dawn. This weapon shows up at multiple points in the game and is necessary to defeat bosses like the Berserker and the Seeker enemy. Now, players who have played the game will understand that, despite sounding like the best weapon in the game, it is actually not, mainly because of its availability.
The weapon runs on the system, which is offline most of the time, making your weapon close to being useless. The weapon also does not work when there is an obstruction on the roof. There is no reason to have this in your loadout because whenever there is a need to use it, the game will give it to you.
