One of Battlefield 6’s most powerful gadgets for the Assault class, the Weapon Sling, is being changed due to it “intruding upon class identity,” Battlefield Studios has announced.
Battlefield 6 returns to the franchise’s classic class system, and that includes class-specific gadgets that make each role feel unique. A big part of the appeal of the Assault class is its ability to bring two primary weapons into the fray using the Weapon Sling, allowing the class to easily adapt to changing situations in a firefight.
In an earlier Battlefield Labs playtest, Assault players were able to equip a second primary weapon of any type using the Weapon Sling. That translated into players using combinations like two assault rifles, an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, and more.
That will no longer be the case. In a post from Battlefield Comms, Battlefield Studio’s announced that moving forward, the Weapon Sling will only allow for Carbines, DMRs, and Shotguns. Players will no longer be able to bring a secondary Assault Rifle, LMG, or Sniper Rifle.
Battlefield global community manager Kevin “Totalfps” Johnson elaborated a little more on the decision in a post on Reddit announcing the change.
“Class identity exists, and we felt–and agreed with players–that it intruded upon those core principles with the earlier iteration,” Johnson said.
It’s just the latest change to come out of Battlefield Labs, with many players currently campaigning to see the return of class-restricted primary weapons. Currently, any class can use any weapon, though using a class’ “signature” weapon type will provide additional passive bonuses. In response to player feedback, Battlefield Studios announced the Battlefield 6 open beta will have playlists for both class-restricted weapons and non-restricted setups.
EA and Battlefield Studios recently hosted a full multiplayer reveal for Battlefield 6, highlighting the franchise’s signature destruction. It also announced its new Portal mode map creator, teased a battle royale mode, and confirmed an open beta will begin very soon.
Battlefield 6 launches on October 10 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will be skipping Xbox One and PS4.
