Battlefield 6 has addressed concerns about server queues at launch. With Battlefield 6 looking set to become a huge hit upon its October 10 launch, every precaution is being taken to make sure players can get into games easily.
The massive success of Battlefield 6‘s open beta has led to hype for the upcoming first-person shooter going through the roof. While players had their share of feedback, the overriding sentiment towards the game was positive, so it will be interesting to see if that translates to actual sales. However, should Battlefield 6 prove to be a financial smash, it’s crucial that Battlefield Studios has the framework in place to make the experience as smooth as possible for players.
Battlefield 6 is Aiming to Avoid Server Queues at Launch
Speaking to Comic Book, Studio Technical Director Christian Buhl claimed that lessons have been learned from the recent Battlefield 6 open beta that should allow for more stability at launch. “We’ve made many adjustments to our projections thanks to the success of our open beta. All of the stuff I said about stability and performance also applies to server stability and server performance, so we’ve been putting a lot of effort into that as well. I mean a little bit of behind the scenes, we run a test where we basically simulate whatever our target is, whether it’s a million or four million. We set a target for the number of players we want to have connected to our systems at a time or at launch and we run a simulation with simulated players.”
Naturally, these tests haven’t always gone to plan. According to Buhl, “The first time we run it, it doesn’t work, right? Some system falls over, something breaks. Great, but it broke then, right? It broke during our testing and then we fix it. We add machines, we optimize that system and we keep repeating that until we hit the numbers that we feel confident that we think we need to hit for launch. So, that’s the approach we’ve been taking to that.”
On the possibility of server queues, they exist, but Buhl hopes the Battlefield 6 launch won’t necessitate using them. “We’re always going to have that as a tool, but we are planning on not needing it for launch. We have projections and then we’re preparing for more than our projections to make sure that as much as possible, we don’t have to have server queues for launch… We have a cap, but we’re setting the cap much higher than we are hoping we hit.”
The Battlefield 6 team has been speaking quite openly about what fans can expect from the upcoming shooter. Just recently, another Battlefield 6 developer admitted that the game’s highly-criticized menus might still be clunky at launch, so it seems not all feedback from the open beta will be fully addressed in time for October 10.
