Battlefield 4 Player Count is Way Up

Battlefield 4 is seeing a huge player resurgence on Steam, likely thanks to the ongoing Battlefield 6 open beta. As Battlefield 4 received largely positive reviews from critics and is remembered fondly by the community, it’s no surprise that the 2013 shooter has seen a substantial uptick in players as fans look to other entries in the series before Battlefield 6 is released later this year.

As a whole, the Battlefield series has cemented itself alongside Call of Duty as one of the greatest first-person shooter franchises of all time. However, EA and DICE were forced to go back to the drawing board after the disastrous launch of Battlefield 2042 in 2021. The semi-futuristic entry was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews from both players and critics, for a multitude of different reasons. Some fan favorite features, such as a server browser in multiplayer, were seemingly absent, the game was riddled with bugs and performance issues, and it completely omitted the single player campaign. While DICE attempted to rectify some of these issues via post-launch content, it has gone down as one of the worst entries in the franchise.

Battlefield 4 Sees 117% Peak Player Count Increase

The good news is that Battlefield is back…in a big way. The Battlefield 6 beta is already breaking records, and it looks like fans are desperate to get as much Battlefield into their veins as humanly possible. According to new research from TheGamer, quite literally every other Battlefield game available on Steam has seen an uptick in players over the last 30 days, with Battlefield 4 being the standout entry. In the last 30 days, Battlefield 4 has seen a 117.4% increase in its peak player count and a 50.1% increase in its average player count. Battlefield 3 was next in line, but the numbers aren’t quite as impressive. Its peak player count increased by 43.5% and its average player count increased by 25.7%. Still, for a fourteen-year-old title, that’s not too shabby.

EA has already said that Battlefield 6 will take fans back to the good old days of Battlefield 3 and 4, so it’s not much of a surprise to see the two titles receive an influx of players at the same time as the Battlefield 6 open beta. Considering the second beta weekend for Battlefield 6 is still ongoing, there could be a chance that older entries in the series continue to see more players flock back to them. Once the beta ends on August 17, fans will be left without Battlefield 6 until its official launch on October 10. So it only seems right to revisit the classics during the long wait.

It might seem controversial to say, but there may soon be a great reason to jump back into Battlefield 2042, too. It may still have a “mixed” review badge on Steam, but a recent rumor claims that Battlefield 2042 is about to receive a surprise final update. Although it hasn’t been confirmed by EA, it could be a pretty substantial update, as a leaker claims that it will not only add one new map and three new weapons, but also two classic air vehicles: the A-10 Warthog from Battlefield 4 and the SU-25TM Frogfoot from Battlefield 3.
