With its main story clocking in around the ten-hour mark, Mafia: The Old Country isn’t a particularly long game when compared to some of the other great crime games that are on the market. That isn’t to say that it’s not still highly enjoyable, though, particularly for those who enjoy a good old-fashioned rags-to-riches gangster story.
Including the prologue, the main narrative of Mafia: The Old Country is broken up across fifteen chapters, each of which is between thirty and sixty minutes in length. After completing them, players will be able to replay chapters via the main menu, with a free roam option also available once they’re done with the prologue.

How Long Does it Take to Beat Mafia: The Old Country (Story Length)
It will take most players between ten and twelve hours to complete the main story of Mafia: The Old Country. With limited exploration and some cutscene skips, players can expect to shave a couple of hours off of this time, although given that Mafia is a story-focused franchise, the latter is not really recommended. Finding all of the collectibles in Explore mode will take another ten hours or so, give or take, although this is assuming that players picked up all of the chapter-specific collectibles the first time around.
Is Mafia: The Old Country an Open-World Game?
Mafia: The Old Country is not an open-world game in the traditional sense, although its story does take place in a highly immersive and historically accurate open world. Some missions allow players to stray quite far from the beaten path if they really want to, but most force them to remain within a pre-determined area. To fully explore the game’s world, players will need to be playing in Explore mode, which becomes available via the Chapter Replay screen once players have completed the Prologue. All items obtained in Explore mode will carry over into the main story.
According to the game’s developers, Explore mode will eventually be expanded upon via a free post-launch update, although, as of the time of writing, there’s no word on what this will entail or when exactly the update will be released.
