The actress who plays Isabella Torrisi in Mafia: The Old Country recently claimed that another game in the series had been greenlit. Developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K, Mafia: The Old Country has seemingly been successful enough for 2K to commission a sequel.
Released earlier this year, Mafia: The Old Country is the fourth entry in the popular Mafia series. The game acts as a prequel to the series and is set in Sicily during the early 1900s, in the city of San Celeste. The story followed Enzo Favara, who joins the Torrisi crime family, and unlike Mafia 3, it was a mostly focused, linear story, instead of a sprawling open-world game filled with activities. Mafia: The Old Country received mixed reviews, with most critics complaining about its clichéd mob story but praising the depiction of the beautiful Sicilian countryside.
Mafia: The Old Country Actress Claims Another Game Is in the Works
In a guest appearance on a Twitch livestream with bubbly_nuggets_, actress Carina Conti, who played Isabella Torrisi in Mafia: The Old Country, claimed that a sequel for the game has already been greenlit. In the livestream, the actress also discussed how most Mafia games tend to be standalone, but “intertwine in various ways” in the same universe. It’s not clear, however, if the new game will be a direct sequel or if it will be a standalone story with new characters.
Essentially, nothing is known about the sequel, but one major question that fans may have is whether the series will continue to focus on linear stories like in the original two entries of the franchise, or if it will return to more open-ended gameplay like the third game. Mafia: The Old Country marketed itself as a $50 linear experience focused on story, but it remains to be seen if the sequel will continue this trend.
While being greenlit doesn’t mean that the next Mafia game will be released anytime soon, this is still excellent news for fans. Mafia: The Old Country had a modest release, peaking at just over 35,000 simultaneous players on Steam, and some fans thought these arguably low numbers could mean it underperformed, which does not seem to be the case if a sequel has been approved.
At the moment, Hangar 13 is continuing to improve Mafia: The Old Country with ongoing updates. Recent patches have corrected bugs, enhanced the game’s UI, bolstered overall stability, and improved enemy pathing and reaction times, making the experience of playing Mafia: The Old Country smoother.
