2025 has given the fans quite a lot of exciting anime, with a lot more still to come, but it goes without saying that Solo Leveling Season 2 is one of the very best, if not the best of this year already. Solo Leveling Season 2 dropped in January 2025, and it has, since then, skyrocketed in popularity. If Season 1 was considered a success, Season 2 is an even bigger success, and that alone makes many believe that it is the best anime that this year has had to offer so far.
However, while Solo Leveling fans certainly think so, general opinion among anime fans is that there are a few better anime that dropped this year. In fact, on MyAnimeList, fans have already voted for the best anime of 2025, and surprisingly, Solo Leveling isn’t on top. The best anime of 2025 according to MAL is none other than The Apothecary Diaries Season 2, and fans know very well that this show is absolutely majestic from start to finish.

Based on fan votes, 2025’s best anime right now is The Apothecary Diaries Season 2. After enjoying a successful first season, fans were eagerly waiting for its second season to come out officially. This year, they got a taste of it, and it goes without saying that it blew all expectations away. The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 shocked fans all over the world with the level of quality that it delivered, and while it doesn’t deliver on action, the plot and the character writing in the series are unmatched. Overall, The Apothecary Diaries has secured a score of 8.99 on MAL, and that makes it the best anime of 2025 so far. It is certainly not going to be easy for any other anime series to top The Apothecary Diaries this year, and it certainly won’t be Solo Leveling.
Solo Leveling Season 2 also did great numbers, and based on fan votes, the series received a total of 8.66 rating, which means that it is also widely beloved. That said, it is nowhere close to The Apothecary Diaries. Jinwoo may have an incredible aura and fight terrific battles, but it seems that it takes more than that to impress fans and it certainly shows on MAL’s ratings.
Solo Leveling Was Also Beaten By Takopi’s Original Sin

While The Apothecary Diaries did beat Solo Leveling Season 2, it wasn’t the only anime to do so. In fact, Takopi’s Original Sin, which is a short anime that came out not too long ago, also managed to surpass it. Takopi’s Original Sin came very close to The Apothecary Diaries, with a rating of 8.86, and that’s certainly incredibly impressive.
Clearly, it is rated higher than Solo Leveling Season 2, which to some, may sound unfair, but that’s what fans like, it seems. Either way, Solo Leveling not being on top doesn’t really take anything away from it. It is a great series that delivers things that neither The Apothecary Diaries, nor Takopi’s Original Sin can deliver. It has its own strengths, which is why for many, it is the rightful anime of the year.
