A leaked trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has fans up in arms after it briefly showed what appeared to be jetpacks, but various content creators who have already had the chance to go hands-on with the shooter say there’s no need to be alarmed. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to be revealed to the world at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, but just hours before the event is due to begin, a leaked advert has made its way onto the internet.
Jetpacks and double jumps were once the “in thing” in Call of Duty games. After exo suits were introduced in 2014’s Advanced Warfare, the series struggled to return to the boots-on-the-ground combat that fans knew and loved. Follow-up installments, such as Black Ops 3, Infinite Warfare, and Black Ops 4, all had some sort of variation of the movement feature, but after fans made it clear they were tired of the futuristic element, developers have kept boots firmly on the ground. While there have been rumors of jetpacks making a return in Black Ops 7, individuals with knowledge of currently unrevealed gameplay elements are assuring fans that that’s not the case.
Content Creators Reaffirm No Jetpacks in Black Ops 7
Earlier today, a new advert for the next Call of Duty game made its way online, just hours before Black Ops 7‘s worldwide reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The advert was only short, but it did include some gameplay snippets that had the community extremely concerned. During one portion of the footage, characters can be seen jumping inhumanely high, which many took as confirmation that jetpacks will be returning. However, various content creators who were lucky enough to go hands-on with the shooter last week at Treyarch Studios have said there’s no need to be worried. “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 does not have jet packs or double jumps as part of its movement,” CharlieIntel said, while ModernWarzone said, “Jet packs are NOT back in the way I’m seeing people think they are.”
While content creators are assuring fans that jetpacks aren’t returning in Black Ops 7, it looks like there are going to be some big movement changes in the shooter. According to reliable insider and leaker TheGhostOfHope, what is being seen in the leaked trailer is actually a “mega jump upgrade from the campaign.” Although this specific feature has never been hinted at by Activision or Treyarch, the publisher did recently confirm that Black Ops 7 will feature an evolved omnimovement system. The studio has also already explicitly stated that jetpacks and wall-running will not be coming back for Black Ops 7, despite previous leaks suggesting otherwise.
For now, fans will simply need to wait until Gamescom Opening Night Live to find out more about Black Ops 7‘s new movement features. But, given Activision’s previous comments and reassurance from content creators who have already played the game, it’s highly unlikely that jetpacks will be returning in the shooter. With that being said, the omnimovement mechanic introduced in Black Ops 6 looks to be getting some significant upgrades in the next installment, which will likely be revealed later today during the highly anticipated gaming event.
