Battlefield 6 – Open Beta, Trailer, Release Date, Price Point, Battle Royale, And Everything Else We Know

2021’s Battlefield 2042 was a disappointment in the eyes of some longtime Battlefield fans, but the developers at DICE and Battlefield Studios have said they took the feedback on board to help make the next game better. The next Battlefield game, which is called Battlefield 6, is coming October 10.

Prior to the official unveiling, fans were buzzing with excitement on the news that the new Battlefield will seemingly emulate older titles and do away with some of the things that Battlefield 2042 did. Most importantly, the new Battlefield game will not have 128-player matches or Specialist characters–two highly criticized elements of Battlefield 2042. Battlefield 6 brings back the four standard Classes, and fans are happy about that.

Battlefield 6 is on the way.

Battlefield 6 is set in the modern day–and takes players to New York City, among other locations–and that’s also a welcome change for fans and a change of pace from the latest games that took place in the future and the past. At least four studios are handling development on the new Battlefield game under the Battlefield Studios banner, and yes, there will be an open beta.

We’re rounding up all the key information to know about the next Battlefield game.

When will Battlefield 6 be released?

Battlefield 6 will be released on October 10.

Preorder Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 is available to preorder now, and it’s not $80. The standard edition is $70, while a Phantom Edition will go for $100. Check back soon for GameSpot’s preorder guide.

New Battlefield 6 trailers

The debut trailer for Battlefield 6 arrived on July 24, showing off the game’s campaign, which is developed by EA’s Motive Studio. The trailer opens with the President of the US speaking to the American people about a “monstrous, unprovoked attack” and how “no country is safe.”

The developers previously spoke about how Alex Garland’s war movie Civil War was an inspiration for the game, and it’s not hard to see the influence of that film in this trailer. The trailer shows off a variety of locations around the world, including New York City, and also features the iconic Battlefield music, which is nice to hear. Of course, Battlefield’s trademark destruction is on display in the trailer as well.

“The trailer offers a first look at Pax Armata, a Private Military Corporation bankrolled by former NATO states whose agenda threatens to throw the world into global conflict,” reads a line from the game’s description. “This sets the scene for what players can expect on the battlefield–both in multiplayer and the return of the series’ single player campaign. In Battlefield 6, the series’ incredible blend of visceral combat, epic warfare, and player freedom returns. Blow through walls and bring down buildings for a tactical advantage or take to the skies in white-knuckle dogfights. Take part in a war filled with tanks, fighter jets, and sweeping combat at a grand scale but remember: the deadliest weapon is your squad.”

Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal

The Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal trailer was released on July 31, and it was all about chaos and destruction, with some Fred Durst mixed in.

Battlefield 6 platforms

Battlefield 6 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It won’t be released on PS4 and Xbox One, and EA has said it has no plans for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Battlefield 6 open beta

The Battlefield 6 open beta kicks off very soon, and it will take place across multiple weekends in August. For more, be sure to consult GameSpot’s Battlefield 6 open beta guide to find out how to get in.

Battle royale?

EA already runs a popular battle-royale game with Apex Legends from developer Respawn. However, the company is doubling down and bringing back Battlefield V’s Firestorm battle royale mode in Battlefield 6. Basically nothing is known yet, but EA will first invite people to try it out in the Battlefield Labs testing program.

Who’s developing the new Battlefield

DICE, the creator of the Battlefield series, is leading development on the new Battlefield game’s multiplayer element. Motive, the team behind Star Wars: Battlefront II and the upcoming Iron Man game, is taking the lead on the game’s single-player campaign. Need for Speed and Burnout studio Criterion, meanwhile, is handling “content and experiences.” Ripple Effect, meanwhile, is making “a new Battlefield experience” that some believe could be a battle royale. All four studios are working on the new Battlefield game under the new Battlefield Studios umbrella.

When former Call of Duty boss Vince Zampella took over as head of the Battlefield franchise, he talked about creating a “Battlefield universe” of connected experiences. This four-studio approach seems to be part of that ambition. The team was originally one group stronger, as Master Chief creator Marcus Lehto was running a studio called Ridgeline that was contributing to this vision, but the team was closed by EA as part of a wider cost-cutting initiative.

Taking on Call of Duty?

Battlefield and Call of Duty are two of the top game franchises in the shooter space, and Zampella said he believes the new Battlefield game has the “possibility” to outsell Call of Duty. However, Zampella stressed that EA is hoping to make a product that stands apart from Activision’s Call of Duty series.

“I mean, is that what we’re going for? I mean, not directly, but always,” he said about Battlefield outselling Call of Duty. “We’re not looking to take down Call of Duty. We’re making something that’s different and we’re making something that’s us. But yeah, it definitely has the possibility.”
