With Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds‘ growing popularity, Sega is asking fans to help shape the game’s future by sharing which characters they’d like to see in upcoming DLCs. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds already has a full year of premium downloadable content planned, with free guest racers scheduled to be added regularly as well.
Recently, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds released the Minecraft Pack, featuring iconic characters from the franchise along with themed vehicles and gadgets. The game is also set to get its second major free update, adding Joker from the Persona series to the roster on October 22. However, it seems Sega has even bigger plans for the future, as the company is giving fans a chance to suggest how the game should expand.
Series Producer Wants Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Fans to Tell Sega What They Want
In a conversation with Polygon’s Paulo Kawanishi, series producer Takashi Iizuka discussed the future of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds DLCs. “We have one year of DLC,” he said, adding that “We could do year two, we could do year three of DLC.” Iizuka then urged fans to share what they want to see next, noting that since CrossWorlds is an online game, the team has plenty of room to expand its content. Several Reddit threads are already filled with discussions about character wishlists, and Iizuka’s comment will likely reignite those conversations and encourage even more fan input.

Iizuka’s comment about involving fans in CrossWorlds‘ DLC plans has also sparked criticism about the game’s current state. While the overall reception of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is positive, many players who paid the extra fee for the Season Pass are dissatisfied. They argue that the lack of voice acting or sound effects for some crossover characters is unacceptable, especially since the Season Pass effectively raises the game’s total cost to up to $100. These players want Sega to focus on improving the value of future DLCs rather than just adding new characters. It’s also worth noting that the game’s Season Pass currently holds Mixed reviews on Steam, reflecting player frustration with its direction.
As of now, at least 15 premium characters are planned to join Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds‘ roster. The game also appears set to continue adding free characters through regular updates, with Joker from Persona and Kasuga Ichiban from Like a Dragon expected to arrive soon. These free characters usually come with themed festivals, giving players a chance to earn extra rewards and cosmetics alongside unlocking the new racer.
