On October 8, Nintendo Switch Online shadowdropped three SNES games, highlighted by the official release of Mario and Wario for the first time outside Japan. Along with Mario and Wario, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can now enjoy Fatal Fury Special and Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, the first entry in the Bubsy series.
Every few weeks, Nintendo releases new titles on apps dedicated to consoles like the NES, SNES, and Game Boy as a perk for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to enjoy. As of this writing, the SNES: Nintendo Classics app has 77 games for players to pick from, which is two shy of the NES app’s current total of 79. The previous SNES app update was in July 2025, when the fan-favorite title Mario Paint was released on the service. Mario Paint was also the first Switch Online game to require players to use mouse controls, which is possible by using Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers in mouse mode, or by connecting a USB mouse.
Nintendo Switch Online Releases Three New SNES Games
- Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind
- Fatal Fury Special
- Mario and Wario
After downloading a short update for the SNES: Nintendo Classics app, Switch Online members will have three more games to play. The October 8 update is highlighted by the release of Mario and Wario, a 2D puzzle game originally released in Japan in 1993. In Mario and Wario, Mario is antagonized by Wario, who places a cracked Yoshi eggshell on Mario’s head, rendering him unable to see. Players control a fairy who can add or remove various objects and obstacles, which in turn allows Mario to make his way to Luigi. Similar to Mario Paint, Mario and Wario requires mouse controls to play. Ahead of the release of Mario and Wario, the SNES: Nintendo Classics app was updated to include mouse control support for more games, including Nobunaga’s Ambition and Mario’s Super Picross.
Two third-party titles are also included in the October 8 Switch Online update. The first game in the Bubsy series, titled Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, is now available for players to try out. The release of Bubsy on the SNES app comes nearly one month after Atari launched Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection. The compilation includes the SNES and Genesis versions of Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, along with other Bubsy games. The last title included in the October 8 game slate is Fatal Fury Special, a 1993 fighting game by SNK.
Fatal Fury Special is an updated version of Fatal Fury 2, which was released on the SNES: Nintendo Classics app in January 2025. As Nintendo adds more games for Switch Online members to enjoy, time will tell what the company’s ongoing plans are for the service.
