One Piece is, overall, and by far, the best-selling manga in the world. This incredible series has made Eiichiro Oda one of the best-selling single authors in the whole world, achieving this over 28 years, and keeping the fans engaged and coming back for more every week. But, of course, like any long-running series, sales have both ups and downs, as does popularity. One Piece’s peak was Marineford, and it has not quite gotten back there since.
Sadly, in September, One Piece was beaten by another series that many fans might not have heard of. That series is The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, which had One Piece beat in Japan in sales, largely due to the incredible boost that the anime gave it.

One Piece is a monumental series, and it has held the number one spot as the best-selling manga of all time for quite a while now, with an estimated 550 million+ copies sold. No other series comes even close to these numbers, and it’s likely that no one will ever manage to surpass Oda, at least not in the near future, especially as manga series get shorter and shorter.
Nevertheless, while no manga series can beat One Piece in overall sales, they can still beat it in monthly or even yearly sales sometimes. One series that recently beat One Piece, at least in Japan, is The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, a manga not quite as popular overseas. This manga was number one in September 2025 and seems to be on its way to very good success overall.
Have One Piece Sales Decreased?
There Is A Decrease, But The Series is Still Going Strong
Fans have been seeing One Piece getting beaten by other manga series in terms of sales more often, but that doesn’t really mean anything. The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity is one example, but it’s not the only one. One Piece has also been beaten by the likes of Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen before. This has many One Piece fans concerned, wondering whether the sales are not good anymore. While it’s true that sales have decreased compared to their peak in Marineford, it isn’t a surprise at all when considering the length of the story.
The fact that One Piece is still selling so much after almost three decades is a testament to its consistency and its power to hold fans for a very long time. Sales will definitely increase again for the series in the final saga and maybe even reach Marineford-level heights, but even if they don’t, they won’t plummet to concerning levels ever.
One Piece Chapter 1162 will be out next week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday.
