Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 developer Treyarch has admitted that the team does “worry” about potential player fatigue, as the studio gears up to release its second Black Ops entry in 13 months. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was released on October 25, 2024, and now, just a little over one year later, Treyarch and Activision are set to release a follow-up (albeit set 45 years after the events of its predecessor) on November 14, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
Not too long ago, new Call of Duty entries were rotated between three major studios: Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch Studios. While the former of the three was well-known for creating the iconic Modern Warfare series, Sledgehammer has titles such as Vanguard, WW2, and Advanced Warfare under its belt, while Treyarch is, of course, the studio behind the Black Ops subseries. However, recent years have seen a collaboration between all three studios and more to develop new Call of Duty titles, which seems to have led to back-to-back Modern Warfare entries, followed by two new Black Ops games in a row.
Some Treyarch Devs Are Concerned About Black Ops Fatigue
Between 2022 and 2023, Call of Duty fans were given two new Modern Warfare games to play. Now, between 2024 and 2025, the same thing is occurring with the Black Ops series, as Treyarch Studios will soon release Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 just 13 months after Black Ops 6. The back-to-back releases could quite easily cause some fans to look the other way, and that’s something Treyarch is well-aware of. In a new interview with CharlieIntel, the studio admitted that it does “worry” about players being fatigued by two Black Ops games back-to-back. However, the devs hope to counteract the potential fatigue with their seasonal updates, as they say they are “absolutely going to bring it from a content perspective.”
Treyarch seemingly has big plans for the game’s post-launch content, which is great news for fans, especially considering Black Ops 7 will already release with 18 Multiplayer maps. Activision finally pulled back the curtain on the game’s Multiplayer earlier this week with a brand-new trailer and a breakdown of all the new maps, modes, weapons, perks, and much more. Out of the 18 new Multiplayer maps available at launch, 2 of them will be large-scale 20v20 maps for the game’s new Skirmish mode, and 3 maps will also be remasters of iconic Black Ops 2 maps: Raid, Hijacked, and Express.
For those who aren’t burnt out on the Black Ops series, the upcoming open beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will give players the chance to go hands-on with the game’s Multiplayer and Zombies for the very first time ahead of its launch on November 14. Those who have pre-ordered the shooter or obtained a code through a promotion can access the beta starting October 2. For those who don’t have an early access code or haven’t pre-ordered the title yet, the open beta will begin on October 5.
