On September 25, Nintendo announced that Doug Bowser would retire as President of Nintendo of America (NOA) effective December 31, 2025. Nintendo also confirmed that Bowser will be succeeded as NOA President by Devon Pritchard, the branch’s current executive vice president of revenue, marketing, and consumer experience, starting January 1, 2026.
Bowser’s upcoming retirement will take place over six years after he succeeded Reggie Fils-Aime as NOA’s fourth President in April 2019. Before his time as Nintendo of America’s President, Bowser served as the company’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, where he oversaw the North American launch of the Nintendo Switch system in 2017. Bowser originally joined Nintendo of America in 2015, and became it’s leader just four years later. Upon becoming NOA’s President, Nintendo fans quickly pointed out that Bowser’s last name is coincidentally shared with the Super Mario franchise’s iconic antagonist.
Doug Bowser Is Calling It a Career
After overseeing the launch of the Switch 2, which sold over two million units in the US by late August 2025, Bowser’s time with Nintendo will soon come to an end. According to Nintendo’s press release on Business Wire, Bowser will retire as President and COO of Nintendo of America effective December 31, 2025. Nintendo also confirmed via a company announcement that Bowser’s successor as NOA President has already been decided. Starting January 1, 2026, Devon Pritchard will begin her tenure as NOA’s fifth President and will be the first woman to lead one of Nintendo’s major divisions. Pritchard is currently NOA’s EVP of revenue, marketing, and consumer experience, and will join the NOA board of directors upon becoming its President. Bowser posted a message on Twitter to confirm his upcoming retirement from Nintendo and congratulated Pritchard on her tenure. In response, Nintendo fans thanked Bowser for his time with the company.
Pritchard’s tenure as NOA President will come at an interesting time for the company. Earlier in September, reports indicated that Nintendo of America was outsourcing approximately 200 customer support service contracts ahead of the winter holiday shopping season. Along with Bowser’s retirement, Nintendo of America will have a new CEO starting on November 16, 2025. Longtime company executive Satoru Shibata, who has been with Nintendo since 1985, will soon step into the role of NOA’s CEO, having previously served as the President of Nintendo of Europe from 2000 to 2018.
Bowser’s tenure as NOA’s President will end at just over six years, nearly half that of Fils-Aime’s time at the post. With Pritchard set to make history, it remains to be seen how Nintendo of America’s plans will change in 2026.
