The Sound of Music is an acclaimed musical directed by Robert Wise, for which he won the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture in 1965. Set in the Austrian countryside in 1938, the film follows a young woman, Maria (Julie Andrews), who becomes the governess of seven children for widower and retired naval captain Georg von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). As Maria, Georg, and the children become closer, news arrives that Germany has invaded Austria, and the family must escape to nearby Switzerland.
While the new Collector’s Edition looks to be a great way to add the acclaimed film to your collection, it’s not the only version of available. There’s also The Sound of Music: 50th Anniversary Edition, which is available on Blu-ray for just $9.86 (was $20). While it lacks the new 4K transfer, art prints, and special packaging, it comes with many of the same bonus features.
