7 Best Games For Feeling Like Superman, Ranked

Summary

  • Not many good Superman games exist, but non-DC games provide similar hero experiences.
  • Undefeated offers players a free Superman-like experience but lacks content.
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us presents a darker side of Superman with brutal fighting mechanics.

James Gunn’s Superman movie, which kicked off the new DC film universe, is doing quite well. Fans of the movie may be wondering what Superman games are best to play next, and the sad truth is, there aren’t many. Plenty of games had good ideas, but they failed on objectives. That said, there are plenty of non-DC games that will give players the same invigorating feeling of being Superman.

These games often feature superheroes or characters who are strong, possess powers such as flight, and stand for truth and justice. Superman is an icon, but he has flaws as well, which is why some darker examples will also be presented. These games will be ranked based on how close they get to Superman’s power levels and idyllic views.

While Superman doesn’t have the greatest track record with video games, there are gems, such as Justice League Heroes and the Injustice series.

7

Undefeated

Has Strong Potential

Undefeated may have passed console players by because it was released on PC systems, like the Steam store, in 2019. The PS5 version was released quietly in 2024 and is still available for free today. Players can play a Superman-like hero who has no name and looks more like Superboy from Young Justice.

Players can fly around a small city and accept missions to test their strength, fight villains, and save citizens. It has everything a good superhero game should have, with the benefit of being free, but the trouble is, there isn’t much content yet. Undefeated: Genesis, a sequel/update, is set to release in 2026, so maybe then things will get better. For now, enjoy feeling like a hero in this bite-sized demonstration.

Justice League: Cosmic Chaos

A Kid-Friendly Brawler

Justice League: Cosmic Chaos probably slipped past a lot of people in 2023. It’s a top-down brawler wherein players can assume the roles of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman interchangeably. The rest of the Justice League are in a bind because of Mister Mxyzptlk, who is causing chaos all over town.

7 Anime Characters Seemingly Inspired By Superman

Given their similarities with Superman, these powerful and heroic anime characters could potentially have drawn inspiration from him.

Punch villains, collect loot used for costumes and power upgrades, and look out for Easter eggs. It’s a cute game best enjoyed with a friend in co-op, but playing as Superman alone is great too. Of the three, his versatile powers feel the best when pummeling enemies into cartoon dust. Justice League: Cosmic Chaos is simply one of the better Superman and DC games around.

Crackdown

Protect Your City

Crackdown may not be as cute as Justice League: Cosmic Chaos, but it sure gives players a powerful feeling. When the city becomes corrupted with violent gangs, super-powered agents are deployed to even the playing field. They stand for justice, but there’s not much personality to be had.

This early Xbox 360 game is still a blast to play, even if the agents aren’t idyllic like Superman, because they sure are strong like him. The gameplay loop of shooting baddies and collecting orbs around the city to bounce around further and faster is exhilarating. It’s a game that starts strong and doesn’t let up until the credits roll.

4

DC Universe Online

Put Your Hero Mark On The World

DC Universe Online is another free-to-play game, and this MMO has been going strong since 2011. Like the changes made to Destiny 2 over the years, DC Universe Online has changed a lot in the past decade, with tons more content available since launch. The core of the game hasn’t changed much, offering players a chance to create their own hero or villain.

Players can choose their powers and upgrade along the way, from a tech-savvy Batman apprentice to a godlike Superman archetype. Plus, players can take on missions and fight alongside famous heroes from DC. It’s a bit slow to start, but give it time, and DC Universe Online will become an addiction for DC fans quickly.

3

Saints Row 4

The President Gets Powers

Saints Row: The Third took the series to a new level, and then Saints Row 4 drop-kicked it into oblivion because it only got wilder. Players, as The Boss, become the President of the United States, which Superman has done in the comics too. Shortly after, an alien attack sends the nation into a mind-numbing virtual reality time loop. When players break out of their fake life, they gain superpowers that can be collected in the story and then upgraded.

Many of the powers are similar to Superman’s, such as speed, strength, and the ability to glide. Players can upgrade their kinetic Blast ability to freeze enemies like Superman, and there are even things Superman can’t do, like Telekinesis. Saints Row 4’s goal was to make players feel as powerful as possible, and it succeeded.

2

Injustice: Gods Among Us

Ascend The Throne

Justice League: Cosmic Chaos is a cute game featuring Superman, but Injustice: Gods Among Us shows the darker side of the superhero. Set in an alternate reality wherein Superman sees the folly of man and ascends his throne into godhood, other superheroes bind to his aura while Batman leads an anti-god agenda. This fighting game never gets as bloody as the Mortal Kombat games, but it’s still brutal.

DC: 13 Strongest Versions Of Superman, Ranked

Every version of Superman is powerful, but even with that in mind, these versions of the Man of Steel are a cut above the rest.

Every punch thrown can create an echo of cracking bones, and no one is stronger than Superman. Every power he has is usable, including laser vision, ice breath, and flying opponents so hard into walls that it can cause them to break. For a true power kick, this is the game to play. Injustice 2 is also worth recommending, which puts a twist on the story that this game sets up.

1

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Truth, Justice, And The Goku Way

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a standout game that highlights the entire anime series with Goku being the main focus. It goes through each arc, like the Saiyan invasion and the Cell saga, plus it gives players an open-world to explore. Players can meet characters from the original Dragon Ball storyline, like Android 8, and help them out on quests.

Goku can level up and expand his powers in this action RPG brawler to fly faster, punch harder, and blast stronger. It’s the RPG that the 90s fans of Dragon Ball Z dreamed of playing one day. Goku is definitely the anime stand-in for Superman, who cares for others and never lets evil win, even in death.
